Call up or email these guys and tell them you want to buy a set of Simex Jungle Trekkers or Simex Extreme Trekkers (aka the centipede) here in the US.

The people I know in the UK and Australia say they are the toughest tire out their. 6 ply SIDEWALLS. They buy the simex over boggers, BFGs, and TSLs. I want a set and they have been telling me for a year to just hold out and they will be in the US in a few months.

Check the second link. The first is the US site who you need to call and harass. The second is the UK site with the pic of the extreme trekker

Why would I want to go to all of that trouble for a 35-11.50?

Kind of what I thought. Cool tires for your Rover I guess.

Kind of nice tires but if I want a tall skinny tire I'll take a 8.25R16 michelin XZL (9X34) or 9.00R16 (10.5X36) or 11.00R16 (11X38.7). They all have real aggressive treads and are radials with steel sidewalls and of course multiple steel belts.

XZLs are not aggressive enough for me. Plus they are crazy expensive new. Surplus they aren't too bad for nearly new (16x9.00 is usually 150) but they aren't the centipede in Mud.

Rover people like weird stuff

To bad they don't make larger sizes, or do they?

They make the Simex in 14.00R20. they make Michelin XLs in 20" in 40.7", 43.1", 44", 45" 46.5", 49", 53".

If and when they good bigger and wider they will kick arse here state-side. That's probably why they haven't released here yet. Just my .02! TIGGER4X

I talked to them about a year ago about possibly getting a set of the Jungle Trekker IIs. They kept denying that such a tyre existed even after I sent them numerous pictures of that tyre. Go figure...DUH!!!

Those are very cool.

I will call and harass them.

Not the right size for my rig, but if/when I build a nice mild Falttie those Jungle Trekker IIs would be awesome - look like a Swamper already grooved for ya.

It's all about options - and these are cool.

How are the Michelin XL compared to Swamper TSL in mud and snow? Is it possible to get Michelin XL in 8.25 16?

Just a point of clarification... 6pr is a 6-ply-rating, which is a load range. Not a sidewall strength measurement. My 36x12.50-15 TSL's are 8pr, but have a four ply sidewall. The 8pr is the load range, they're rated to carry something like 2800 pounds each.

Thats what I thought too. 6 ply being the load rating. Odd as most are 16in tires are 10 ply radials in those sizes I thought. However, I later spoke with one of the people who is sponcered by simex and he confirmed that the tires had 6 ply sidewalls, he explained the construction to me but I don't remember it quite right so rather than spread bad info I will refrain. They are bias not radial and you are supposed to run them with tubes.

XLs are not as good in mud as TSLs in fact, my experience has been that the only good thing about XLs (otherwise known as XCLs) is that they are tough as nails.

XZLs are good all around tires but are not aggressive enough for mud for me. XZLs are also extremely tough and wear pretty well.

Another piece of unobtainium is the silverstone. Common on my favorite volvos, in fact some people even call them laplander tires, they are 14 ply radials and have a good rep in europe. Aggressive and directional.

How about some 38x11 Boggers?

evilfij

Nice but no directional stability and taller than what I want to run.

Hit too many trees with the roof already :)

Silverstones are good tyres too but they don't come in very big sizes. Both Simex and Silverstones are from Malaysia.

Many vehicles in the Canadian military run XL's I never saw one fail and had good results with them on different vehicles. I have a friend who used to run the 11.00R16 XL's on his F250 and they worked pretty damn good for him too.
