Thinking of getting a 00 super duty regular cab long bed for a tow rig Its got a 6 inch pro-comp and 35's on it. It only has 20,000 miles on it some scratches and it has the Triton v8 in it. Over all in good shape how much is it worth? And is this a good tow rig to hall a Jeep Wrangler with it just having the v8 any thing I should worry about? thanks:usa:

If its an auto and it hasn't been geared for the 35's it'll be a real dog. At a work we have a crew cab 5.4, at, 2wd that will absoutley NOT get out of it's own way. I think you will be disappointed towing your jeep.

I also think you will be disappointed with the v-8 and lift. If it was stock height with a 4.10 or 4.30 (not sure what is the option on the v-8) you might have a chance with a 5-6k trailer. If you plan to tow look at the v-10 or powerstoke (mine pulls 5-6k fine with my lift and 35's).

I had a lifted/big tired truck for a tow rig once - won't go there again.

And as for a powerplant.....

POWERSTROKE, BABY! :grinpimp: :grinpimp: :grinpimp:

Keep the lift/tires for the trail rig not the tow rig... just doesnt make sense.

Agree with all above. Big tires often break axles and driveline just moving thier own vehicle....add a trailer and you are begging for reliability issues.

Also, anything you can do to improve stability of a tow combination is a good thing, and that would NOT mean putting big tires and a lift on the tug.

Finally, big tires reduce effectivness of brakes, which are also highly stressed by towing. A small motor will test your patience, but inadequate braking may test your insurance coverage.

Come awn. F250/350 with powerstroke will move anything you want. I have 2001 F250 6" with 37's no problems getting on it and moving anything behind or in front of it. Stopping while towing is no problem either.
Basically the F250/350 with powerstroke is way overkill. Big meats or not.

The Triton won't make you happy. We have a lot of them at work and they suck even without a load. But the Army buys cheap.
It wouldn't even be any good for a poser rig.
I say Powerstroke, but the v-10 seems to be a favorite of people who wish they had a Powerstroke.:flipoff2:
I agree with the leaving tow rigs unlifted.
If it will be a daily driver or minimal use tow rig, then send it to the sky and make it a poser.

I don't think that you will be happy with the 5.4 in the super duty. The 5.4 in the half ton is actually a more snotty engine. The half ton 5.4 has 265hp while the one in the super duty only has 235hp. I know that torque is what moves you down the road and that horsepower is just a mathmatical equasion (?) but still your loosing power somewhere. Don't take this wrong I don't think you should go look for a half ton, but I pull an eb around with my half ton super crew with 4 inches and 35's quite a bit, yes my tow rig is lifted.
