I'm in the process of building my 383 Stroker that I will be swapping into my Scout, and I'd planned on just buying a TPI setup from eBay or somewhere that I could find a good one for a decent price. My question is, since the computers have speed sensors, etc... will I have to swap transmissions as well to a GM tranny? Is there any way just to leave that speed sensor shutoff and still make the engine run like its suppost to? Someone help me out here!

Matt

I have a dana-300 with a speed sensor, it just threads on between the t-case & speedo cable. so you can use any transmission.

if you do go with a TPI setup don't dissable the speed sensor it's used for lots of things in the computer. the cost of the speed sensor is not that much from jegs or summit.

A good website for TPI info is www.thirdgen.org

good luck .:D

On the website jagsthatrun.com they make & sell speed sensors for TBI & TPI. They also sell a damn good book about doing FI swaps. I've got a '86 305 TPI with a th350 in a J10 frame with homemade body.

The TPI can be run without regards to transmission selection. Doesn't even care..........lol. Now, about the VSS...........I have had this debate a couple of times - my stand is on the side of 'you don't HAVE to have it'. Period.

Now, will it be a good idea to use it if you can make it adapt? YES, but I have run my TPI K5 for a year and a half with NO VSS and believe me, it runs............and runs excellent. My builder has done over 130 TPI conversions into mostly Jaguars, but that list includes a couple of Jeeps, Toyotas, S-10s, etc. and not ONE of them have a VSS.

One other factor you need to be aware of in your project is the compatibility between the TPI manifold and your heads. If you go Vortec heads, you will need to get the new GM Vortec/TPI intake or look for aftermarket.

Good luck..........keep us posted.

By the way, the VSS aftermarket companies use goes inline on your speedo cable.
