: might run out of heating oil!!!

my oil delivery is a few days away and i might not make it until they get here. a friend of mine told me to just get some diesel at the gas station and dump it is. claims its the same stuff. will doing that do more harm then good?

If I remember right #2 Diesel is the same as fuel oil.

no 2 diesel is undied heating oil:D heating oil is red dyed diesel #2 its dyed for non highway use like in heating oil or ag use

Its not quite the same thing. There are minor diffrences, but #2 Diesel will work. As will Kerosene, and Jet Fuel. :flipoff2:

the purpose for the dye is so that if a vehical uses the 'dyed' fuel, Which isn't taxed like regular auto desil, you could look at the filter on the auto and see. and then give the fine for it.

heating oil is more of a diesel #1 actually, it has a lower freezing point and creates less BTU when burned, but yes, pump diesel will woek just fine...

my parent's have been using off-highway (dyed) diesel for the pool heater for years and it has had no effects other than it smells a bit different when it burns...
