Damn, I'm turning out idiots in class every day. :D
Powerpoint makes you stupid (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/14/magazine/14POWER.html?ex=1071982800&en=799ad449b398c2d7&ei= 5062&partner=GOOGLE)
Wait a minute you get paid to teach people to use power point?
How the hell do I cash in on this scam. :flipoff2:

Power point is evil. Actually, it just sucks. I hate using it when lecturing. I'd rather do it all off the cuff and write on the whiteboard.

funny things happen when you make ppp on windows then load and present it on a mac. I have done a few for classes, most of the school stuff is mac.
My prof thought I was an idiot untill i loaded it on a reg PC and showed her it really did work and was in order.

The problem is the application of the technology. I use power point all the time but it is not used exclusively. To many people who are using it have no idea how to do a presentation. You don't jam 50 million bits of data on one slide and by no means do you a ppt as the standalone information.
I use power point as an outline for my classes. I pop up a slide with a half dozen bullet points and maybe a graphic that let me know what topic I'm talking about. I alway reference to manuals or supporting documentation.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people are teaching and making presentation that have no idea what they are doing...

DUDE.
case in point.
my wifes girlfriend from the Detroit area (dEarborn) just sent us thier annual x-mass
card/update.
her and her husband are nerds who work for ford & GM.
the last three years they have constructed thier annual x-mass letter on PP,
its horrific.
to see somebodies life for the past year reduced to bullet points, and incomplete sentences.
weak.
powerpoint is fine, if you know how to properly apply its technology.
lose all the cutesy animated wipes and gimpy graphics.
keep each page limited to one idea
its just a tool to be used w/ proper presentation skills.
here at my firm, we use powerpoint all the time but we have certain templates to use and methods to follow. keeps all the morons from fawking things up

Now that would be improper use of the tool... that's for damn sure. :flipoff2:

Power Point is the outline for your presentation. Your speech that goes along with the slides you've created are where you expand on the data. The meat of the message is in what you say, not what you put on a slide.
