Is it a good idea, or should I can it, and keep the TH350?? Have to change the adapter to the Dana 300, I think? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would go for it. The 700r4 has the lower 1st gear and the over drive lets you get away with lower axle gears easier. If I went auto it would be the 700r4. Just my .02

If I went auto, it'd be the 700R4. However, I don't know if it'd be worth it or not to swap from the TH350 to the 700 unless the 350 is having some problems.

the AW4 is an often overlooked tranny. it is strong and has a good overdrive. people are often intimidated because it is electronically controlled, but there are some very easy solutions to that (PM if you want details).
The AW4 will bolt up to a 4.0L or 258, and with a spacer/clocking ring will bolt up to a D300. (must be a 23 spline AW4 which are '91 on)
