what is the size of the slot in a winch bumper built to accept most winches without a bridge? (10x4.5 mounting pattern)
how far up from the mounting surface are the mount holes for the fairlead, what size are the holes?
thanks for any info, i procrastinated and now i need to get the bumper done for a friend and this is the last thing i have to do. again, thanks.

thank you, but it doesn't answer where the bolt holes are for the fairlead or where the slot should be in height compared to where the winch sits, or how tall and wide the slot needs to be. i can guess on the width of the slot and the width between the fairlead holes, but not on the height.

ok I read this thread a couple of times to make sure the measurement I was going to give you was the right one.
Hopefully this helps on my Warn 8k which is on the XJ the fairlead holes the two that mount the fairlead to the winch plate are only 1" up from the base of the winch and are 3/8" holes.
The plate is the one that came with the winch used off SWB Jeep I didnt take it off the plate just bolted it to the top of the bumper I built for the XJ.
Now on my CJ5 Ramsey 8k the holes for the fairlead are at 2" up from the base of the winch.
I haven't had any ill affects from the CJ5 winch as far as the fairlead being an 1" higher from the base of the winch and both winches sit above the bumpers not sunk into the bumper.and are also 3/8" holes.

hmmm, thanks for that info, that's exactly what i needed, but i was under the impression that there were holes in the front uprights of the winch that if one wanted to, he could bolt the fairlead directly to the winch body and that's why i was looking for that measurement, so that the my friend could bolt his fairlead through the bumper and into the winch itself to get another clamping force on the winch. you seem to be suggesting this isn't the case. so, i will just put them high enough to keep the fairlead even with the bottom of the bumper. thanks for the info, he is likely going to run a m8000.

neither winch I have has a bolt surface on the face of the winch to put the fairlead directly on the winch. If there is one that has it maybe someone else will pipe in and let you know.

ok, just ran into another problem- i know the mounting pattern is 10x4.5 for most winches, so, how far back from the face of the winch are the first 2 holes? thanks for info.

sounding to me like you need to get a winch before you start fabbing a bumper.
