So who else got their "Valued Four Wheeler Subscriber Video and coin?" Funny I have NOT been subscribed in well over a year when all the chrome shocks started showing up.

Did you read the letter with it?

They send you a unsolicited video and expect you to pay for it or ship it back.

If they send it unsolicited can't I throw it in the cat box and let him shit on it and not a damn thing they can do about it? Isn't it extorsion and Mail fraud to pull a stunt like this?

I didn't ask for this crap to be sent to me and Now I have to respond and pay or take time out of my busy life to fawk with crap I didn't ask for or possibly be turned over to a collection agency.

I plan to call the Georgia Trade comissioners office tomorrw if I have time and see the legality of this crap in Georgia. Also calling BBB and reporting them and unscrupulos (sp) buisness. Then the post office and see if I can nail them for mail fraud.

What a bunch of crap. I will NEVER send money to this company or any of their mags again.

Ohh yeah I'm going to drill a hole in the "collector coin" and use it as a fender washer on my truck. At least then it will have some value to me.

Load this post with your comments and send the link to them to see what we think of this crap.

Now, if you kept the item for use/enjoyment, you right fully owe.

If you did NOT use/distribute said item, then you owe nothing. You should be be held responsible to return something distributed in this method, as it would take effort/time on your part, which you did not give consent for.

Fawk 'em, unless you're going to use it as a fender washer. Then, you're using said item. :)

Yep you better read that. It's not free. They want $7 and they are going to try to send you another in 2-3 months if you don't send that back with it marked that you don't want.

no you do not have to pay for this. why?? simple cause you did not order it which means there is no contract. if companies could do this then they could send you all kinds of stuff and you would have topay thur the nose to keep or send it back.

Unless you signed for it, they have no way of knowing that you actually received it.

Perhaps it got lost in the mail...

Reader's Digest pulled this crap with me a few months ago. Sent me a couple books and then started sending me overdue notices. I simply responded and told them I didn't recall ever ordering anything from them, and asked if they had any documents indicating I had. They sent me an apology for the "error" shortly after that.

If they sent it to you and you did not request it you are not required to send it back to them. It seems they are just sending it to everyone on thier mailing list so I say keep it and send them a letter that you did not request this item and that if they want you to return it to them they need to send you the proper postage to return it to them.

Seems to me there was a PSA years ago that said if you receive something you didn't order, it's yours to do with as you please and you don't have to pay for it. The PSA showed an eskimo opening a box that had a fan in it. Anybody else remember this?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you can keep it or throw it away and you don't have to pay anything.

Well, it looks like I just got a renewall to a subscription that I initially wrote to cancel. That didn't work so I let it run out and was followed up by 3 different phone calls asking why I did not renew. I explained each time that I was no longer interested and no longer owned a VW (it was VW Trends mag, BTW...PriMedia can suck it!).

Well, new subscription  We'll see if they try to charge me for it.

It has a addresssed return postage. Not that I feel I should have to lift a finger to tell them that what they sent me without me requesting it I don't want. Just like I didn't want their publication because what they covered didn't interest me.

I did a little search at USPS.com.

Good thing you did that. I'm getting calls from credit collection agencies for some fucktard that ordered a bunch of shit all the way back in 1991 that they didn't pay for. It looks like they're just going through phone records for people with the same first initial and cold calling trying to get someone to pay.

One more call from them and I'll have them paying me. :D

Some thing here. About a year ago they kept calling me because someone had given them a bogus number, mine. I was nice the first two times then got nasty and started cussing at them. Lady told me that I would have to sign something saying that I was not this person. I told her that if they called me again I'd file harresment charges and I would sign two things, shit and nothing.

I carefully explained it to them the first time. I know the second time it was them, when they asked for me by first initial and last name and asked to speak to me. I acknowledged I was that person and then they hung up. I think it's time for caller id. I can and will get very nasty. (Ask any customer service person that doesn't satisfy my complaint. I will drag it out into a endless and very painful conversation. Just to make them wish they made me happy.)

I told them the first and second time that I was not the person that they were looking for and to please not call me again. Girl said it wasn't a problem. After the third time of "Mr. Diegle you must call us regaurding a very over do payment" I got pissed. Kids were asking me why we owe money to someone and when I tried to explain that they had the wronge number I got a  look.

To keep this on topic. About every three months we get about fifty small tubes of Crest toothpaste from someone. At first we sent them back with a note but they kept sending them so we haven't bought toothpaste for the kids for about two years.:D

Check this USPS site (http://www.usps.com/websites/depart/inspect/merch.htm)

A company sends you a gift in the mail--a ball point pen, a key chain, a tie. But you didn't order it. What do you do? If you are the type of person this company is looking for, you may feel guilty about accepting the item without paying for it. Don't feel guilty! It's yours, and you are under no obligation to pay anything.

You, the consumer, may only legally be sent two types of merchandise through the mail without your consent or agreement:

Free samples which are clearly and conspicuously marked as such.

Merchandise mailed by a charitable organization that is soliciting contributions.

And in these two cases, you can consider the merchandise a gift if you wish. In all other situations, it is illegal to send merchandise to someone, unless that person has previously ordered or requested it.

These rules are codified in Title 39, United States Code, Section 3009. That section of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 incorporates these protections for American consumers and makes the mailing of unordered merchandise unfair methods of competition and unfair trade practices under the law.

If you do not wish to pay for unsolicited merchandise or make a donation to a charity sending such an item, you may do one of three things (in each case, by law, you have no obligation to the sender):

If you have not opened the package, you may mark it "Return to Sender," and the Postal Service will return it with no additional postage charged to you.

If you open the package and don't like what you find, you may throw it away.

If you open the package and like what you find, you may keep it for free. In this instance, "finders-keepers" applies unconditionally.

Furthermore, it is illegal for a company that sends you unordered merchandise to follow the mailing with a bill or dunning communication.

If you are aware of violations of the federal law prohibiting the mailing of unordered merchandise, or if you have personally had difficulty with such items--especially if you are sent statements demanding payment for the merchandise--you should contact you local postmaster or the nearest Postal Inspector.

Should get a local news station involved. Give the magazine what it deserves... Bad publicity.

In Phoenix, several of the new stations have a "Channel X 'On Your Side'" hot-line. I bet they'd just eat up a major national magazine using this illegal tactic.

Someone should start a class action lawsuit for all of the people that didn't know better and sent in the cash...

Anyone else belong to a Music company like BMG or Columbia House? I'm not sure how they do it, but if you don't send back your little form every month stating you don't want something, OR order something they will automatically send their "pick" out to you and bill you for it.

It's the most irritating thing in the world. I don't do business with them anymore, but my Mom does using my account.

I agree. Certainly they know that nobody they send it to has any obligation to pay for it or send it back. They also know that a percentage of the people they send it to will either pay for it or send it back because they either like it and want to "preview future titles" or don't know better. I would bet they projected that the cost of freight minus however much they take in from those who pay would be less than the cost of disposal. Or some such crap...

Anyway, I watched mine and I'm not returning it or sending in the $7. :flipoff2:

I haven't looked at mine closely yet, but if it's prepaid postage, what's stopping you from putting the tape back in the package along with an 8"x10" sheet of 1/4" steel, or maybe a ziploc baggy of lead shot? I was thinking about doing the same thing...since my package was ruined when I opened it I guess I will just build a crate to send it back to them in, of course they will get a few extra items with it:D its gotta be overnighted too (pre-paid postage rocks:p)

I Tried to E-mai lthem through their automated crap system off the site that they were in violation. Still have not heard anything from them.

I was just curious because I came across the package that they sent me.

I gave it to the kid next door.

I got the package and sent them an email thanking them for the free gift. I referenced the information from the USPS site and provided a link so the receiver could check it directly.

I received a very polite email:

Dear Paul:

Bringin up da past..

Just got a letter from Petersens.. THought maybe it was a renewal but its about the video......

The letter is dated February 19th, but I just got it Saturday.... Here's some text from the letter that most will find amusing:

"Michael, our records indicate that we are still waiting for your decision. I've heard from most of the fellow 4wheel&Off Road magazine subscribers and their response to this new series has been amazing!"

They even sent me another return postage paid label to return the videos if I like.

The letter is from Matt Blaire of4WORmag.........

You all should have mailed them back a bunch of crap on their return postage along with an invoice for the parts you just sent them.

Someone needs to mail them the link to this thread and explain that the marketing/sales department just needs to let this whole thing go. It was a good concept from a sales standpoint, but 4 wheelers are not the type to just roll over and take being screwed.

Just got a response back:

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your email. It is always a pleasure to hear from our
members. I have taken care of your account for you, so we will not send
you any further items in this collection. Since you did not order this
video, feel free to keep it for free. Again, I apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause. If you have any further questions, please
do not hesitate to contact us in the future.

Thank you,

Mr. Kelly St. John

Except when it comes to land closures:mad: I wish MORE folks would take a stand and let their voices be heard like the group here at PBB!

Damn, and I wanted a free Jeep coin. :shaking:

I did get a video and coin from the NRA. It's a pity they choose to spend my life membership dues this way. At the least, they could have sent a DVD, instead of a VHS tape! Do you suppose they're just disposing of old inventory, and taking a tax writeoff on it?

1. Save every Free Credit Card Offer you get, Put it in pile A
2. Save every Free Coupon You get, put that in pile B
3. Now open the credit card mail from pile A and find the Business Reply Mail Envelope.
4. Take the coupons from pile B and stuff them in the envelope you hold in your hand.
5. Drop the stuffed to the brim envelopes in your mail and walk away whistling.
I have now received two phone calls from the credit card companies telling me that they received a stuffed envelope with coupons rather then my application. They informed me that it they are not pleased that they footed the bill for the crap I sent them. I reply with "It says Business Reply Mail" I'm suggesting coupons to you to ensure that your business is more successful. They promptly hang up on me.
Now, I did this for about a month before it got boring, so I got an added idea! I added exactly 33 cents worth of pennies to the envelope so they paid EXTRA due to the weight. I got a call informing me about the money, I said it was a mistake and I demanded my change back. After yelling at the clerk and then to the supervisor they agreed to my demands and cut me a check for the money. I hold in my hand at this very moment a check from GTE Visa for exactly 33 cents.
