: Crazy BMW owners
86cherokeexj 12-19-2003, 09:57 AM I just wanted to see what everyone thought about this. One of my co-workers has a BMW and hes always on e46fanatics.com I saw his sig on there. All I could do was laugh at the things he was claiming as mods to this thing.
2001 330Ci Steel Gray Metalic with SP and PP
-DDE Lightnings (Enhanced) he changed the headlights
Blacked-out Grill he painted his grille black
I was just wondering if anyone else would consider these as actual "mods" I figured there's got to be at least a few more people on here just like me who should get a kick out of this.im sorry he didnt even change the headlights all he did was add a "halo" around the headlights and splice in a few wires he just wanted to make sure that i made this clear on here
ImNotRight 12-19-2003, 09:59 AM Thats just heavy, expensive rice at that point

i think you mean kraut not rice
pyros46290 12-19-2003, 10:19 AM as long as it looks good in the end and doesent sound like a chainsaw
Grim Reaper 12-19-2003, 10:23 AM Changing the bulbs? LOL I pitty the basterd if he comes running at me with the brights on. He's have burned retnas from the wall of light I have hanging on the front of the Burb. 440watts of fun! 100w bulbs in Hella Ralley 1000's and all 4 high beams are 55watts :D Now that's a light mod.
86cherokeexj 12-21-2003, 07:37 PM any body else have an opinion on this?

No, no, no. It's "wurst", not kraut.
Get it right. :D :D :flipoff2:
SUE ROVR 12-21-2003, 08:16 PM Splicing wires on a new BMW takes balls
I would feel much more comfortable rebuilding a trans in my rover than doing anything electrical on the E60

Honestly, its a pair of headlights. How fawkin hard can it be? At most, 3 or 4 wires...
86cherokeexj 12-21-2003, 08:25 PM actually it was 3 wires per light
SUE ROVR 12-21-2003, 08:36 PM Mine has some kind of fibreoptics crap throughout it.
Cut one in one place and something else stops working.
I dunno, the xenons are brighter than the wagner halogens on my D90 but the wagners are still bright enought for me :)
:flipoff2: yes I am a luddite
Rockcrusher 12-21-2003, 08:47 PM There's a riced out 635 M6 that drives around Reno . . . Huge friggin wing . . . coffee can sized exhaust tips . . . uuugly ultra low profile tires on oversized wheels . . . neon lights underneath . . . 10,000 stickers good for at least 250 HP. Every time I see that travesty I want to puke.

They never even built an M6...thats just another sticker. They did build a 635CSi that was pretty dag gone bad, but that was the closest they ever came to an M6.

They did. I had one. Super fun, light in the rear. Nice buffalo leather interior. Double date at 165!

Josh83 12-21-2003, 10:00 PM I stand corrected. I had heard from several sources that they never built them, but that some people put M badging on them. Guess I heard wrong.
bad80cj-7 12-21-2003, 10:47 PM My Pops has an 2003 M3 convertable, shift's on the steering wheel or manual on the knob, no mods and it straight gets it!

I think it's because new BMWs have switched to like 36 volt systems or some shit because they have electric a/c compressors and shit rather than belt driven.
If it's not now supposedly it's soon. A buddy of mine who is an engine diagnostic tech was telling me about it.
86cherokeexj 12-26-2003, 08:52 AM anyone else want to hijack this thread in a different direction
SolidAxleDurango 12-26-2003, 09:14 AM About as lame as a few of them I've seen around here...
fledgling666 12-26-2003, 10:45 AM what they call mods and what we call mods refer to 2 totally seperate ideas. ours- of course, major mechanical changes for performance off-road, theirs- changes to look and/or performance.

Ok, that makes everything a little bit trickier. That and the fiberoptics or whatever SUE ROVER said change things a bit. ;)
DynamicallyUnstable 12-26-2003, 11:31 AM I say, those are weak mods to list for a BMW. He's reaching...he listed "SP" and "PP". Ooooh, sport and premium packages, bling!
Real BMW mods would include the words "Dinan" or "Hamman".
Rocksurfer 12-26-2003, 11:44 AM I go through this every day with my 10 year old son, he sees these "bolt-on" aftermarket wings, headlights, taillights, etc., etc., etc. My first question to him is what other than making it look cool does it do for perfomance? Do those lights make it go faster or climb hills or rocks better.... NO! Yup, sure makes it look fast though. Just like everytime we take my Willys out, he begs me to light-up the tires and pop a wheelie, to which I quickly respond "That's not what I built it for" it may be able to do those things but I've only done it once or twice for him. Plus I'm scared I might break something expensive.
CRAZY MATT 12-26-2003, 11:52 AM Theres a guy that i autocross with that hasa M3 on slicks that he leases. That car just gets with it around the cones. Sad thing is that he beats my horzion by ~9seconds around the track. It would be more fair if i wasnt on street tires and had $ for a rear sway bar.
The fun part is racing on the way home. First year he beat me pretty good 2nd year I out pulled him from 110 up ( i think i got lucky) this year i'll have the omni out- Im hoping to run 12's in it so he might have a lil suprise :D
