: Painted my junk
Blatant 12-21-2001, 10:45 AM Finally got my rig painted. I spent the last couple weeks disassembling, prepping and doing a ton of body work (I gotta stop using the body as a pivot point. LOL.).
Got some half doors and a soft top again. Here's a photo of the finished rig:

I used Aervoe brand military paint. The shade was flat light green. I really wanted more of an olive drab, but their version was too brown. I'm thinking this will lighten up a bunch more as it cures. It's really only been out in the sun for one day.
Here's another angle:

Here's a photo when we were actually spraying in Blake's (HeyBeerMan on POR) shop. The paint went on REALLY green and we were freaking until it started to dry and lighten up.

JohnC 12-21-2001, 10:57 AM Looks great.
NE-RokToy 12-21-2001, 11:04 AM looks good, personally though I wouldnt cover up a bunch of good body work with a flat color ;) i mean if I was gonna do all that work I would want to make it obvious. Doenst look bad though and future body damage will be less noticable
Mcstiff 12-21-2001, 11:14 AM Looks nice. Sweet 3 spokes :D
HeyBeerMan 12-21-2001, 12:12 PM He never said anything about GOOD body work.
Semi Gloss is your friend..
GreenGynt 12-21-2001, 01:32 PM Looks sorta like John Deere green to me.
...it looks great blatant
RoCkSkuLLz 12-21-2001, 01:46 PM That looks bad ass!! I wanna paint my Jeep an Olive Drab but a good buddy of mine is already planning to do his O.D. I dont wanna be all twined out. Maybe I'll go full camo :D
Blatant 12-21-2001, 01:49 PM Thanks for the kind words. Like Blake said, I didn't write "good body work" just "body work." Of course, the only section that pitted was the one that he did. Hmmmmm. LOL

Your repainting your Jeep.....Making it look better than mine. YOU think I was going to do my best work?
Shit no!
I call dibbs on spotting you first! :flipoff2:
Chark 12-21-2001, 02:10 PM  It looks sweet...have a cold one and sit back after all the work. It's funny how a fresh paint jobs color will change a little and we seem to get used to it too. What the deal on the 3 spokes? They're cool also. What brand?
Blatant 12-21-2001, 02:50 PM Are you guys serious about those wheels? Man, they're Panther alloys that were on the Jeep when I bought it. I just Krylon'd them flat black because I'm too cheap to buy new ones.
But as soon as my 1-ton axles are built, I'll be going to 8 lug, so if anyone wants those wheels, you can have 'em.
Blake: Maybe I'll just let Bill spot. Hmmm. On second thought, you can spot and I'll just keep a rattle can of touch up in the tub. LOL.
RB: Aervoe makes about 10 or so different military-type paint shades. You should check them out if you want flat, but want a different shade.

i think they are cool because you did the right thing by blacking them out. if they were still shiny they would be :rainbow: but since you fogged them with some black paint they are now pretty cool!:D
RoCkSkuLLz 12-21-2001, 05:59 PM you definitly need to ditch the wheels! Those are just to wimpy looking compared to the rest of your Jeep. Just get some black steels there like 35 bones each. :D
tigger4x 12-21-2001, 10:00 PM Blatant, Lookin pretty good! I would second the thought that it will lighten as it cures a little more and the sun gets a hold of it.
Does Aervoe make a "Safari Tan" I am thinking about going with a monotone paint job. If they make more than just one color of tan I might consider desert camo. Thanks, Keith
welcome to the od spraypaint club.:flipoff2:
ehsankiani 12-22-2001, 05:17 AM Nice work... I like the colour... and the nice hill in your backyard... :D
mudbug97tj 12-22-2001, 06:49 AM looks good
Charly 12-22-2001, 07:35 AM FAWK.
So my idea isn't original...:D
I'm going one ton too, stepping up to a 14 bolt from the 8.8.
I'm going for an older drab color though.
Looks real good.
How many cans did it take ya?
Charly
YJ4RoX 12-22-2001, 03:35 PM Looks sweet man, i agree ditch the tri-spokes.
I got a couple of questions:
Does the paint company have a website?
Did you rattle can it or paint gun it?
How expensive was the paint? THANKS

He shot it with a HVLP gun.
We used just under a Gallon of paint. We put two coats on. The paint really coverd good.
I believe there is a web site for the paint manufactuer. Just do a search. The comapny name is Aervoe.
road1will 12-24-2001, 08:59 AM looks good. now youve just gotta change those rims. :barf:
willysfreak 12-24-2001, 03:52 PM Olive Drab top on a YJ? Ware did it come from, who makes it? Thanx. BTW, how much does a gallon of Aervoe cost?
4x4extreme 12-24-2001, 09:12 PM It looks good
YJ4RoX 12-26-2001, 06:28 AM Thanks for the info on the paint!
Mcstiff 12-26-2001, 07:00 AM Nope I think they are :rainbow:. I was fawkin with ya.
Jakesteramalamajama 12-26-2001, 07:16 AM Looks good, dude.
Now go beat the hell out of it and put a few dents and scratches in that sucker!
:flipoff2:
Blatant 12-26-2001, 10:12 AM Sorry it took me so long to reply. The new BBS software here seems kinda buggy. I can't reply at all from home and my T1 connection at work is only marginally better. Oh, well, seems to work better on IE than Navigator.
Anyway, as soon as the 1-tons are built, the ghetto fabulous rims are going bye-bye. WF: That's not a khaki top, it's a Bestop Supertop in spice color. I paid $40 for a gallon of paint and I still have maybe a quarter of it left.
Wheeled it on Saturday and tried to make the squeeze line on Predator. I made it, but crushed my driver's front fender in the process. So much for my nice new paint!

I went through a local army suplus dealer who sold it, and I paid around $2.75 a can. I used around 15 cans for a 2A, including my cage, with three coats. I went with the WWII Olive Drab and It looks sweet :D
borton 12-26-2001, 12:59 PM nice :p
Charly 12-26-2001, 02:55 PM jeepintim,
What model # on the Aervoe paint did you use?
And do you have any pics?
thanks,
Charly

Charly,
I used # 987 A (34087).
I don't have any scanned pics in front of me here at work, but I will see what I can dig up. Peterson's 14-day flatty used the same color from aervoe, if you have seen it. It looks pretty close to the shade mine has. ;)
Tim
YJ4RoX 12-27-2001, 07:34 AM I emailed Aervoe so they would send me some spray samples. If i ever get them I will take digi pics and post em. Thanks for all the info:D
:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Charly 12-27-2001, 05:27 PM Yeah, I thought it would be 987. Thanks, and yeah if you can get any pics I'd still be interested.
Cutch 12-28-2001, 06:19 AM Blatant
Was wondering if the color has gone more flat since you took the pics.
Blatant 12-28-2001, 08:29 AM Cutch: Yep, it seems to be oxidizing pretty nicely, particularly after sitting in the sun. I think it's going to turn out OK.
I looked at the 987 olive drab pretty hard, but the paint sample in the store seemed too brown for what I was looking for. I'd be really interested in actually seeing it on someone's rig, though.

jeepintim 12-31-2001, 04:40 PM Man, sorry it took so long to get these posted :) These are all pre-waggy axles.

jeepintim 12-31-2001, 04:50 PM This one shows the base color I painted on (after wet sanding it). I don't think it gave the over all color a greener tint, because the areas that I painted over that were black or grey, turned out the same. One thing I have noticed is the color looks much greener in the mountains, and browner in the city.

Blatant 01-02-2002, 11:15 AM Tim: Looks good, man. Actually, looks much better on your rig than the paint chip I saw in the store.
Dion
jeepintim 01-02-2002, 01:53 PM Thanks :)
