Nice, it needs one of the Bling Bling stickers on it!

But why not just use the cell like you were the other night? I've always had reception at the sites.

Yeah just found the speed. Faster than T-1

MotoSat leads in technology. The MotoSat Datastorm mobile high-speed Internet system allowed ORC staffers to process a huge file download at above T-1 speeds in a recent test near the ORC HQ in the Nevada desert. ORC will debut this system at the SCORE International Baja 1000 race.

Because the cell phones are not as reliable, and the bandiwidth isn't as reliable. For example at JV cell phones don't work at all... With new venues coming out in the future, we can't rely on cell phone technology to be there for us.

I'd drive that thing out for TDS if somebody wants to buy one. :D We could fit like 10 or 12 Sammy's from SC/NC/GA in there.

Hey Lance... What happened to that Class-A trailer that the Official Pirates of the Rubicon Club had? Is it still around?

If so, why havent you bought it out from under the club with your Summit Sponsorships and started travelling in style?

Wait.. I just reread something above...

Does this mean that pirate4x4.com is gonna have LIVE streaming from competitions?

I can see it now... a mounted all-weather CCD TV camera with remote control ability mounted on a retractable vertical mast system sending a live feed back to those of us unfortunate bastards that are still riding our corporate Desk chairs.

Unfortunately the upstream bandwidth of the motosat isn't up to the task of true streaming video. But I do plan on having at least a web cam or two out there.

So Lance, is that going to be mounted on top of your new camper or do you
just set it up where ever on it's own stand ???

It's going to be mounted on a portable rack so it can be hauled in different vehicles. My camper won't always be at all of the events...

Running the Comm Link off of a laptop or does it require a bigger, clunkier Comm Unit?

DEnd
12-21-2003, 09:34 PM
Chister it should only need a laptop, and of course a 12V power source.

Does it have a auto Sat locator?

and how much does the sat service run? Last time I priced it it was upwards of $70-$80, to be able to roam. but this was through RV sources, so the prices may have been a bit high.

It's all automatic - GPS controlled.... The basic service is $99/mo.

Well Lance your welcome to use my enclosed trailer for set up anytime I'm around. That way you can keep it locked up when no one is around.

 Do you still have the receipt? Take it back!!!! That's way too much money!

The prices on that chit is gonna drop through the floor in the next year or two. We are talkin $500, not $5000.

They are actually $3995 new, and you have to pay $1000 to have it installed. We bought this one used, so we didn't pay full price for it. However don't expect the price to go down to much in the future, they are a pretty complex unit. This thing automatically stows with the click of a mouse. When stowed, a click of the mouse and it raises, and automatically locks on to it's sat. I'd expect the price to MAYBE drop by $1000 AT MOST in the future...

I'm working on this for Lance. Seriously.

Maybe not LIVE, but 15-20 minute delay for quality video. My research tells me that for wireless in-car live cameras like Nascar has are $25,000 A PIECE! (for camera and transceiver) Imagine the 40 cars on pole position with a camera front, back, each side and driver and you see the kind of cubic dollars that Nascar has.. P4x4 isn't quite there yet..

PM Lance and tell him you want to see me bring it to you!!

I'm waiting on this to support Internet Service :D
http://www.kvh.com/uploaded/images/Auto_MainImg_167x169.jpg

more info here:
http://www.kvh.com/Products/Product.asp?id=79

and for service (if you don't mind dial-up upload speeds and a up to 250kbps download speed) I'd use this:
http://www.starband.com/residential/moreinfo.asp#starter
only $39.99 a month. But I don't know for sure if that allows full mobility.
