FIXXXXAH 12-21-2001, 04:07 PM ok, so i decided that while i wait for the 420/plate to get in order, i'd make my front bumper. heres the problem, i have this ANCIENT Ramsey 8,00lbs winch, its HUGE. right now in the current base it is 25.5" i measured the open area, and i can push it down to 20" at the smallest. i want to nest the winch down between the frame rails at least a few inches, and its 25" from the inside of the frame rails. i'd like to have at least an inch from winch to frame rail and from winch to PS box. i HAVENT done the PS conversion yet and it looks like this is gonna be a problem cause that leaves me a whopping 3 inches for the Saginaw box to fit. i know some people recess the scab plate into the frame rail... how far canyou push it? can anyone tell me how far their saginaw box sticks out from the inside of the frame rail? and dont say scout. thanks, Matt:(
elf_cruiser 12-21-2001, 05:25 PM I think you need to mount the winch above the frame rails, buddy. It'll just work out better that way.
FIXXXXAH 12-21-2001, 05:28 PM And dont say "mount it above the rails" either :flipoff2:
wanabecruisen 12-21-2001, 07:30 PM Go with the Scout P?S conversion. That's what I did and I couldn't be happier. In fact, I'm starting to gather parts for the next one. Just my .02
ROCK HUGGER 12-21-2001, 10:51 PM You should sell the old Ramsey and buy a new Warn, you will be much better off all the way around:smokin:

Exactly, this conv. will definatley solve your problem, and its cheaper to.

From the inside of the frame rail to the widest part of the box is "6.250 and this is with a AA mounting plate on my 66 which an 8274 fits and my own mounting on the 77(same "6.250) with a XD 9000I mounted above the fram rails.
There is no way for a non 8274 to fit between the rails unless you go scout box.
Her is a pic of my 9000I to show how much room there is.

My frame rails measure 24 1/4" inside and the XD9000I is 22" and the saginaw box is 5" from the mounting pads to the widest point.
If the box was mounted low you might get the winch to set down a little bit.
I would like see to how you mounted the box.

Live Wire 12-23-2001, 09:19 AM I made my own mounting plate & I cut into the front crossmember & then reinforced it with a 4" piece of pipe. The steering box is angled down a little & is moved back into the crossmember about a 1/2". We used a drop pitman-arm & the tierods are all lined up straight. The winch motor on the 9000 just clears the bolts on the top of the steering box. We did however cut into the top of the bumper to move the winch forward a bit. Worked great for a year & then he goes & buys an 8274 & puts the 9000 up under the rear of the cruiser! Oh well, it can be done with a little work. Pic to follow. Brad.

I stand corrected :emb4:
What a guy! makes you go through all that and then changes winches :flipoff2:
Nice job, I guess I should have worded my response a bit differently.
Just seems like a lot of extra work for for what little gain there is.
