Ok, so I picked up that '47 willys. It has no engine/tranny. The t-case is in the bed. I know nothing of trannys or t-cases, (that being why I'm asking you guys so that I can learn) and I'm planning on a 302 engine. Any ideas which tranny I should go? I don't even know what t-case is in the bed...I was told it was stock.....

Oh and while I got your attention, what carb would you advise?

Thanks

Is the tcase a twin stick? If so it is a dana/spicer 18 which would have been stock for that vehicle. Also check and see if it has the overdrive unit attached to it if not too bad.:( Personally I like my setup buick 231 with a m22 rockcrusher backing it up. I have the stock tcase too with the saturn overdrive. A V8 may be a little too much for that tcase mine is at its limit with what I've done. Click the link "Ol Yeller" below and it will take you to what I have done to mine. Remember real works of art are never completed. and good luck, I see many hours of working on your Willys in your future

Hey if you want one I just found a dana/spicer 18 that WEEZER is selling (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=205584) on the board here it does have the overdrive unit and that unit makes a big difference in how fast you can go onroad. I know if I don't shift it into od my max is about 50-55 compared to about 70 in od.

edit: rats link didn't work but he posted on the transfer case for sale. Ok fixed the link it nowgoes to his thread.

Ha, just went a site that was trying to sell a pontiac and it was you saw your Willys and its... its a truck! Oh well now I wouldn't know what you've got there in the way of a tcase, my limits only go to Willys CJ's and that is limited to the parts of the vehicle that are original still on mine.

Hmmmm....I'm not where my truck is, but I'll have a look at the t-case when I get out there and tell ya what it is.
Thanks so far

If you're thinking 302, I have a T-18 granny tranny mated to a D20 transfercase out of my Bronco. The T-case is the "T" shift 2.42 low gear version. Take 400 hundred for it + shipping. Can send pics if you want.

Thats a good bet, and as for carb go to fuel injection. Worth the money in the long run.
