i have an AMC20. if you do get it then make sure you put 1 peice axle shafts in it. it is prolly as strong as a dana 44. one of the bad things about them is that they tend to have problems with the axle tubes rotating in the housings under high stress. this problem is easily fixed by welding the tubes to the housing with nickle rods(i think thats the right rod). Other then that i would say its a great axle for up to 35's-36's

The tubes bend as well, I have a bent one now. Also, the crossshaft is a weak point. If yuou put a locker in, the will eliminate it though.

YJLIZARD ... if you run with the weak a$$ CJ version of the AMC20 you are most likely gonna have problems with it!:( HOWEVER, if you run the FSJ AMC20 you will have all of the strong points and eliminate the problems that plague its little brother. I have an AMC20(and a Dana44, both WT and for sale ;)) and haven't had any problems with it at all. I know of other rigs with the 20 under them that are running upwards of 38" meats, gears, lockers, and do just fine. One piece axles are always the way to go in a 20 without a doubt. You won't have the problems with bending or spinning axle tubes, spinning the hub, There are a couple of threads that discuss the FSJ version vs. the CJ version. There is a lot of misconception about the FSJ version because of all the problems that wheelers have had with the WEAK CJ version(has crappy two piece axles:barf: ). Good Luck with your project! I didn't bend my tubes until after I put the 1 piece axle shafts in.

Well I ran the cj version for quite a while with one piece axles and I never had a problem with it. I am taking my detroit and gears and putting them in a FSJ 20.
Yeah, yeah, another thoughtless comment.
