Arrrgghh is my Christmas project gone west ?
I've just picked up an ARB locker to go into a set of Salisbury 4.7gears.
This by my reckoning should be an RD32 locker, yet the instruction book I got was for an RD20 - the 3.54 ratio version.
I've pulled the 4.7 ring gear, and it will fit if warmed a little - but I'm reluctant to do this if I've got the wrong locker.
How can I tell the difference between an RD20 and an RD32 ?
There are plenty of marks and codes on the casing, yet none appears to be an RD part number.
My supplier is now closed till Jan 5th
I'd bet if you post this in "Gen 4X4" you'd get a much faster response. I personally do not know the answer.

the difference is in where the ring gear is positioned on the locker. either gearset will bolt on fine, but because the 4.7 gears are thinner than the 3.54 gears, the ring gear mounting flange is positioned closer to the pinion to make sure there is the correct amount of gear engagement. if you run the 4.7 gears on a 3.54 carrier without a spacer shim, you will strip the gearset extremely easily. at the very least you need to find the ring gear spacer, which is available. ideally you should get the correct locker for the lower gearset.

If it is wrong it will be obviously wrong when you try to install it.
Or if it is no obvious you would have screwed it up anyway, so it is no great loss.

Adam is on the money - but alas not what I wanted to hear.
I've just poped the diff pan on the rear diff (already fitted with a RD32) and took some measurements.
Yep wrong locker or spacer required
Guess I'll have to find someting else to keep me busy over the christmas break.
Thanks again

Yep, I think all early diffs (4.7 gears) require a spacer. You might ring up gbr. He has them laying around.
