: How much did you pay for your used 8274,

Hey,

Merry x-mas. I am just curious what you guys ended up paying for the used 8274's that you rebuilt. Every one told me they were buying units for 200-400 dollars, for junked ones.

I keep getting my ass kicked on ebay, for smoked winches. 450-600 bucks. I go to bed thinking, shit, I am going to pay way too much. And I wake up and the fawking winch is like 100 bucks over what I thought was a high price.

Doh. :(

I think I paid $300 and then had to put about $120 worth of parts into it.
Brake was messed up, and was the old style that they don't sell parts for anymore.

Has worked like a champ since then.

$250.00 CDN, about $175 U.S. (at the time). No remote, but I made one up, and hadrwired it as well for about $25.00. Works like a champ.

here's the switch I used in-dash.

I helped a friend store his Jeep when he went to Germany to follow his girlfriend. When he finally gave the Jeep to his cousin, he gave me the old 8274 that was on the front.

The girl was and is a keeper. Jeep was just OK, but I'm a cruiser guy. I'm sure the cousin liked it. We all did well.

Merry Christmas!

$200, plus $120 to completely rebuild it, and another $106 for winch rope from Rockstomper on a group buy.

That's $426 for an all-new winch with synthetic rope. :grinpimp:
Now if I could just get around to FINISHING the rebuild and building a bumper for it.

The key is to buy one with a shot cable, and everything wrong with it except for a siezed motor, since motors are fairly pricey. Although, if the motor is bad you have an excuse to run the new 4.6HP motor, and have a REALLY smokin' winch. 80 ft/min anybody? :D

$10 at a farm auction + $5 for 150ft of cable

i had just gotten there, and heard the auctioneer say 'no one is gonna bid on this big winch??" so i ran over, wiped some grime off, saw a big red 'W' and said, whats the bid at? He said, what'll ya gimmie for it? I said $10 and he said sold!!! the cable was lying right next to it, he said '$5?' i said, SOLD! It was on a bumper for a Scout 800 too. Then i went to a junkyard and found my original Scout II warn bumper for another $30 i think:D

It's an older style, no remote, but i have all the incab controls for it anyhow :flipoff2:

Well you can be more pissed off at Scoutkid than me - but I paid 200$ for two :flipoff2:

Ones is a jeep badged model and the other is a plane jane 8274 - both run great and I got 150' of cable from a local marine rigging shop for 56$ - the second one will run syn. but the rig is not up and going yet...

Matt

PS I had to buy a remote for it!

There was one at my old work that was sitting under a bench forever, covered in grinding dust and slag. I bugged the owner to sell it to me but he kept refusing. One day i helped fix his truck (about 20 minutes work), he said i could HAVE the winch for helping him out. I tried giving him money for months but he refused. So i ended up with a complete working 8274 with remote and cable for FREE!:flipoff2: Very cool guy:D

I bought mine for $200 a few days ago. it doesn't have a ground cable run to it, someone rigged up a four prong trailer plug to the solenoid cover  and he told me it wasnt' working right, but he was just taking the solenoid cover off and jumping it with a piece of wire, and he didn't know what he was doing when he did it...

anyways, i've heard that the solenoids in them are just ford solenoids and someone also told me that if i needed it rebuilt to take it to a starter shop, b/c it was a ford starter in there???
where can i get parts for it at? any rebuild manuals out there?
TIA

Got mine for free, some guy broke up with his girlfriend and she was sneeking over and thrashing all his stuff so he said $500. for the Jimmy and pay him later, took it home and sold it 5 minutes later minus the 8274 never pulled a penny out of my pocket, works great with the control and cable and all

I got mine in perfect working order, perfect cable, remote, cover, everything for $400.

Quick story: I saw an old F-250 and a boat for sale on the side of the road. The F-250 had an 8274 on it. I called the guy up and offered him $300 for just the winch, he said I could take it for $400. I took it.

For me, so far, they are both just stories... I have yet to find a cheap 8274 or front D60 anywhere. I'm chalking them both up as myths until I'm proven wrong.:D :flipoff2:

I found a 8274 in the Boeing classified ads at work a couple of years ago. I got ahold of the guy within 10 minutes of the ad going up and made arrangements to buy it. When I picked it up a week later he said he had over 100 contacts on it and had to pull the ad off-line after a couple of hours.

I paid $300 for a good working 8274 with remote and a homemade winch bumper. I sold the bumper a coupld of days later for $50. I did buy a mile marker roller fair lead cause I did not want the hause head. But even today we still have the same cable on it.

This was bought about 3 years ago.

BTW- It took about 6 months of searching to get this dael and I have been searching ever since for a 8274 for my truck. I even offered a guy that gave me two scouts $300 for an old 8274 that was on one of the trucks but he said no. Good luck - keep searching but stay out of the NW - I want one first. :flipoff2:

Sorry for the hijack:

I got a 1988 GM D60 front axle for $850 with free shipping. (shipped to my house in Oakland, CA from LKQ in Redding, CA) I made it clear when I bought it that I wanted it to be complete. But when I got it, it was missing the brake calipers and the face of one lockout. I told them I needed those parts or a credit. They chose to send me a $150 check. So: $700 late-model NorCal D60 with free shipping. It's wasn't the cheapest D60, but it was a good deal.

It does happen.

I got one for 150.00 . Sounds like BS but it really happened. An older fellow I worked with, said he had an old warn in the back of his shed. He told me he bought his daughter a jeep years ago and did not want her mud bogging the thing so he took the winch off to discourage her from going. I bugged him for several weeks to bring the winch to work and I would possibly buy it. I almost fell over when I saw it but I kept my cool so he would not try to scalp me with a price. I offered 150 , he smiled and told me to take it! I had to help him find the control in his shed though, and the cable had a few fishhooks in it. Unfortunately I get drug over the coals on most my used parts purchases.

I picked up a warn XD9500i for 200 that did not work. All it took was putting the power cables on the right way. I also got a RC ford D60 with 4.10's from a late 70's truck for free from a guy I leased some hunting land from. It had been sitting in his pasture for a decade but it was complete. I turned around and sold it on Ebay for $925. I told him that I would send him half of that he said not to worry about it.

Got my first one for 500. Complete with cable and Chevy plate.

Got my second for 189 ebay. Missing motor, endcap, solenoid pack. Still have not repaired.

I will buy any I see for a good price. They are the ultimate winch.

I continue to look for generic heavy duty solenoid packs or cases for different solenoids. I do not like the new style solenoids packs.

I have an old cable controled, cable in only, style I could sell for under 400.

The older 8274s used a metal four prong connector. As for the solenoids, they look like Ford, but do not use Ford ones. They will not last and fail prematurely. The Warn solenoids are only 15 bucks each so it is worth it to get the good ones.

Back when I was around 12 and could keep an eb, my dad had rusted blue 70 in the back yard for a yr or two that he got in a trade from a friend. It had an 8274 on the front and a kickass cb inside. :( Wonder what the JY did with it..

I traded someone the stock 2.5 engine (had about 114,000 miles on it) from my YJ for an 8274. The 8274 needed a cam gear and cable. I rebuilt it.

A few months later a solenoid blew.

I'd say the engine was worth about $400 around here.

It came with a complete bumper and fairleade but no solinoides. I simply run it with a cheep constant duty solinoide. Its pretty old but pulls great. I've had it for about 4 years now.

Just thought i would add mine to the list. I looked off & on for about 3 years and finally just settled for buying a new 8274-50 from advance auto/partsexpress for a really good price.

A few months later i found a used 8274 for $200. It only needed new wireing "boots", a new solenoid cover, and a new switch in the remote. I also have new rockstomper rope for it. I may just go ahead and put the rebuild kit in it also.

I ended up selling the 8274-50 to someone on here for only a few bucks less than i payed for it.

Also, the bargain D60's ARE out there. My local car junker has a matched pair from a later model F350 and only wants $500 for them. I don't really have the extra cash or need for them, and most of my wheelin pals that need them already have them... Otherwise i know they would have been snatched up.

If anyone is interested, PM me and i can see if they still have them. Located in Marion, Iowa.
