What does everyone think, good idea, or waste of time?

not worth it Brad......keep the shackle where it is. You will be happier in the long run. I did an SR on my 1990 Sami when it was 1 month old and just wished I'd left it in the other configuration. Issues that come to mind...brake dive.......fender rubbing.

Brad---see this old thread.... http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4384&highlight=shackle+reversal

What do you want to do with it? On a dedicated crawler that is the only way I'd run leafs up front is with a S/R.

Hey Chris... Why? I just reversed mine and havent wheeled it yet so what do you think will be different (other than not bending leaves... or is that your only reason??) the main reason I went s/r is to get rid of the stock jeep crap that keeps ripping off and to move the axle forward a little, so Im just curious I guess. ;) Oh and I heard itll ride a little smoother too :p

I have run both, hands down the S/R is better in the rocks for clearance and more articulation from a tiny shackle without having to revert to some kludgy hinged shackle (or big clearance robbing single shackle). It also benefits you when trying to climb steep ledges or walls. With a S/R the leaf compresses when you push the tire into a vertical surface, pulling the tire up. With the shackle in front, the shackle moves back when you push into a wall, pulling the tire down (and sometimes bending the spring). Also, when you do climb, the front end will walk forward a bit which in some cases is the extra bit of reach you need to get the front tires over the top. With a Shackle up front the front end just unloads. As for the downsides, yes, you need to spend money for a long spline front driveshaft. Brake dive, mine doesn't exhibit any more than when I ran a big shackle in front. I think this is due to my low CG, nothing up top means there is less weight transfer when I slam on the brakes. I am not sure why people think S/R = brake dive. I have driven stock toys and they stop just fine with no apparent brake dive. Fenders? You can't run fenders where we go......
