just buy a low milage (30K) motor from the junkyard of whoever should be about $1500. all you need to do is have all the original smog equiptment that would have come on the donor car. the donor car must be the same year or newer than the car you are putting it in.

Hey Ken,
You must use an engine from a passenger car that is the same year or newer then your cruiser. You cannot use a heavy duty emisions engine. You must keep the smog controls on the engine in place. You will not need a cat on a 78 & older cruiser though. Goodluck, & I would highly recommend doing this conversion. Let me know if I can help. Brad.

depends on what year of vehicle you are putting it into pre 73 is smog exempt. thats why i love my 70 so much.

or you could move to a state where they don't care about any vehicle older that 1990 :flipoff2:

No real emmissions checks, no titles, no crap if it is before 1983 here. That, and the fact that a 12 pack will get you inspected just about anywhere...

Cali is tough on that stuff. If you bought a new GM crate motor, would they consider it to be a 2002 motor? Is that what you are saying sloan?

I didn't think of that it would have to have all the applicable smog equipment. Moving my residency to AZ is starting to look better.:D
