: POLL: Do you have insurance on your trailer queens?

Im having a little dispute with someone. He says that even on an offroad rig, you need insurance cause they wont insure you medically if you hurt yourself or soemone else gets hurt by your vehicle. I think that is BULLSHIT! Car insurance dosent even cover an offroad accident like a roll! So why would they cover an offroad injury?

Im thinking he is full of shiat, but tell me if you think otherwise...

My final opinion in the matter is that car insurance on a trailer queen is that it is useless, a total waste of money cause they aint gonna cover or help you with anything that goes on off the road.

I may be totally wrong though...

Disagree with you. 99.999 % of the organized trail runs that I've been on REQUIRE that you have Liability insurance on your rig. It's not for you, it's for the person you hit, roll over, etc. And to add to the confusion, I run full coverage on my truck and have never had a problem with Ins. covering an off-road "accident"... 'course, I still drive it on the road.

If you run over or roll over on someone you can be held liable.
And then there is the theft protection issue ...
Mine's insured for a $25K "agreed value".
My agent brought an additional reason to insure ... fire ... either in the garage or on the trail.
Even the ARCA requires competing vehicles to be titled, liscensed and insured.

I was in an accident last summer on ice house Rd. I was hit by a drunk. He was .17 thats by the time they got him to the jail. He Totaled my trailer & Jacked up my rig.
I have full on my tow rig, full on my trailer, & Off road Ins.on my rig. Would'nt want to roll over on top of someones rig without it.

The guys ins. tryed to get out of paying for my rig till they found out it was insured.

Damm right I do.

Had the truck appraised and have it insured for it's value. Also have off road liability insurance.

The more mods and extreme the truck is the more expensive your liabilty becomes. It's trailed to an from the trails
Not street legal.

Paying $2400.00 per year

Also, out here in Colorado, anyway, any motorized vehicle driving on a county road (ie, trails, dirts roads, mountain roads, etc) has to be registered. You have to show proof of insurance to register here. I've seen dirt bikers get ticketed for driving in the backwoods with no plates. Kinda messed up, I think. ~Steve
Oh yeah, I have liability on the Zuk. :D

Well,

I guess I was wrong. Ill keep the liability insurance n my truck. I have never had comprehensive, I only paid 400 bucks for one and 1500 for the other and combined them.

Anyway, thanks for the information. looks like the consensus is that everyone should at least have liability no matter what.

Thanks

Most trails around NW Georgia are county roads, so insurance should have to pay anyways. Also, you have to consider fire, theft, roll overs, and transporting/driving your vehicle to the trails. Full coverage for me.

I have an underwriters policy taken out on my Jeep, with a cash replacement of what we determined it would cost to replace. We agreed on a set value of 22K. It was the determination of the underwriters agent, that any ammount above that was in excess of a "reasonable implied value" , so the cost of the policy increased dramaticaly and expotentialy above that price.
These types of policies are very common, to boats/yachts and motorhomes, but its like going against City Hal, to get a carrier to take you seriousely, and write a policy for an off road rig. I am covered for 100% of the dollar amount of the policy, in the case of theft or any catastrophic event, resulting in damage repairs(parts and labor) totaling 51% or more of the policy value. I also retain salvage rights. I can not claim on any demage below the 51%. It is also not covered for any damage sustained durring any organized competition. (the Competition clause could be ammended, if the sanctioning bodies were to implement a licensing program, such as the major motor sports require).
The policy is surprisingly affordable and its independent of my regular coverage for insurance policies I carry for my motorhome, truck, and even the Jeep, for Liability, comprehensive and collision. In fact I can still claim damages on my Jeep, through my other policy, after the $1000 deductable.
My regular policy only covers damage on any of my vehicles if incurred on a county road,(according to my agent, but unclear in any of the 10 pages of legal mumbo jumbo, in my standard automotive policy).

Insurance? Hell I don't even have it registered, but then again I have an excuse for that because I don't have a lisence plate or papers for it! hahhaha It's a trailer queen, it would cost me more to insure it for a year than it did for me to build it!

I keep it insured just incase there is that one dick out there that I might tap on the trail and he wants his show rig repaired! Plus I really don't drive mine on the road that much, maybe to the lake(I live by Folsom Lake)! The main reason is that it is cheaper for me to insure my wheeler and my tow rig(daily driver)!! I get the multiple car discount!!

I insure everything. The older I get the more I have to loose. Its too easy for your whole life to be ruined for one "AW SH!T" . It seems today everyone is looking for easy money.

I have my trail rig (zuk) fully insured. I drive it on the road so liability is required, but it was only $10/mo ince I now get multiple car discounts.

I'm not really worried about repairs to the zuk. I'm more worried about theft.
