: IH 1200D Front & Rear Axles for Jeep swap

I have the opportunity to purchase the front Dana 44 and rear Dana 60 out of an International Harvester 1200d pickup truck (I think 1968-1970). I've searched Binder Bulletin for any info, but not much is useful.

I am currently setup with 35's on my 97 Jeep TJ (in desparate need of an axle upgrage - D30 & D35). My thoughts are to buy both front 44 and rear 60, refinish, check the hubs & axles for necessary replacement, add a detroit, cut and weld brackets... and rock on.

My questions are:
1) Has anyone used these axles in a swap before? I'd like to try and get an idea if these axles are reliable and worth upgrading.

2) Are replacement parts, such as hub assemblies, fairly interchangable with other D60's? (and easy to find?)

3) Would a D60 rear from this IH 1200d be a better or worse choice than a Ford F-250 (late 70's) D60?

4) Should I consider looking further for another axle from Ford, GM or IH or any others?

Thanks, This is my very 1st post.

I think the rear is a good choice, but for the early years that 44 fornt may be closed knuckle (Weaker U joint) and drum brakes.

Like DRM said.. the front is almost definitely a drum brake closed-knuckle Dana 44.

74/75 IH trucks had disc open knuckle '44 fronts, but new rotors are $250 each..

Otherwise, I don't see anything wrong with your choice..

Thanks for the info. I'm still pondering my axle choices. I may just try to find a corp 14 bolt out of a dually for the rear.

yup the 60 is the only good axel I got the closed 44 and it SUX
drum brakes, not as good turning radious, closed knuckels, smaller u-joinds and I have been going mad trying to find the closed knuckes seals. why dont U use the IH as is whats wrong with it?? no point on wrecking a good truck especly one that doesnt exist any more

The truck is at a local salvage yard that I frequent. It looks like it's in decent shape for being 30 years old, but the engine has been removed. I'm only looking for axles right now.

There's nothing wrong with the D60. I'm just being thorough with my thought process.
