I am confused. The adapter that Boyce shows on their web site is different from the one that is on my 400/205 combo. Mine is out of a 87 model truck.
When did they change the adpter as mine appears to have a large 6 bolt pattern much like a Ford 205 at the input?
Which adapter type is still available new?

Chevy changed around 1986 and went to the 6 bolt pattern on their tranfer cases. The adapter you have is also longer the th400/205 adapters prior to 86 because the input shaft from the 205 to th400 is longer than the older style th400/205 set-up.I do believe the adapter is taller to..if you plan to do an ORD doubler I believe you have to switch to the shorter input shaft and shorter adapter, but, not sure on that one.Sounds like you made out pretty good on the wrecked crew cab.:D

Yea, my goal when I bought it was to part it out and have the trans/t-case left over with no money in them. Considering what I gave for the truck, I barely made it.
So are both types available new from the dealer?

Todd,
I am not sure if both types are available. You know I was suppossed to go look at that truck and I was thinking of the same thing..The guy called me and I set up a time to go and decided not to go look at it at the last minute. good luck.:D

CORRECTION: The round-bolt pattern 205 t-case's were started in '85, not '86.
I have an '85 K30 and it uses this type of adaptor.
The '84 K30's use the tall adaptor, which sits on the flat crossmember.

Are the lengths different between the older and newer style of the 400/205 combo like onetonwillis thought? I know that the setup is about 4" longer than a 350/205 setup.

Yeah, the female input on the 205 is longer on the '85 and newer compared to the '84 and older which have a shorter female input shaft.
Check out offroaddesign.com and click on the info about the 205 t-cases. It will show the differences between the 205's and the 400-version cases, too.
