In order to do what I wanted, I was into a MM210 with spool gun, $1500 minimum for two gas bottles, etc etc. That's TIG territory, so after some research:

ThermalArc Pro-Wave 185 TSW (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2583466631&category=45031)

Apparently capable of a true 200amps TIG at higher duty cycle than advertised. Good support in my area. Unfortunately it's a Japanese machine, but I can't get into an American inverter with those features for that money. The Miller 180 SD is a great proven machine, but I don't want that huge current draw at a lower output than the T/A 185. So anyway, by next Christmas, The Boss is already on board. Good thing we spent all that money for her acrylic painting this year!

so.. you figure that since you got close to $1500 for a MIG, you might as well spend $2500 on the tig?

You should b e able to find a MM210 w/ helmet, w/ spool gun for about $1200.

No, you cannot get a MM210 for that kind of money with a spoolgun anymore. They aren't offering the free spoolgun anymore, and with those accessories you're past $1700 on cyberweld.com, which is the price of the T/A 185.
