Iam thinking full width on my strictly wheeling 1976 FJ55. I have decided that the benefits of full width axles are worth the cost. I would like to stay about 65" wide(axle) for the 14 bolt rear and the D60 front...

-Is this possible or am I crazy?
-What vehicles would be good donors for the 14 bolt and D60?
-If I go D60 Rear, are the S/F rears good?

I tried searching the archives but the search function does not like the "14" or "60" (Too short???)

Thanks for the help...

First off, full width would be about 69" wide, not 65" if you are planning on D60s or 14 bolt.

If I were you, I would get a Chevy K30 front D60 and cut the long side down 4.5" so your spring hangers match stock. This will get you to 64.5" wide. Stock Chevy hangers are 31.5" apart and FJ40/55 are 27" wide.

For the rear, you don't want a SF axle since it costs too much to convert your front axle to 6 lug and it is easier to just buy 8 lug rims. There are rear 60s out there that are in the 65" range as well. I think most of the mid 70s Fords used them. You can also get a cab and chassis 14 bolt rear axle which is about 63"-ish (64"-62" I forgot exactly how wide).

the easiest/cheapest place to find the narrower rearends is in vans same axles as their 3/4 and 1 ton truck bretheren but narrower
