Alright,

Before I go into my long drawn out tale of woe, I thought I'd let you all have a crack at writing the caption for this photo.

It leaves a lot of room for interpretation, but let your minds wander to the worst case scenario and you won't be that far off.

Let 'em rip!

Headgaskets anyone?

Serious One

HEHEHE!!!

We have a tie!

Pendy and SUE ROVER both answered the most correctly.

I knew they wouldn't rent me the trailer to tow a RR on, so I answered '94 CJ-5' when she asked me what I was going to tow on it. She looked at the screen for a LONG time when I gave her that answer, maybe '94 CJ-5 didn't come up on her screen! Hehe.

I am pretty confident I have blown the head gaskets. Rodding out the radiator served to allow the system to work so well and build up enough pressure that my upper heater hose from the intake manifold to the water pump cracked on the bottom side near the hose-clamp.

I kind of knew that hose was on it's last leg because I could see coolant oozing out of the top of it between the layers of rubber where the cords are. I believe that this is a sign I pretty much knew what was going on, but chose to ignore it. Bad idea.

The hose blew about 1 mile from my parents home, it was late, dark, cold and I said to hell with it I'm driving home. The engine got hot, not into the red, but was pretty hot.

The following day I looked at the coolant, it was LOOOOOW, put some more in and drove the truck around, getting it up to temp. and returned home. There was white sweet smoke coming out of the exhaust and the coolant was down at least 1/2 gallon. Most of that coolant loss was probably the hose, but I am quite sure that there is a head gasket breach in there somewhere.

I am also seeing where the oil cooler lines started leaking and had been dripping onto the exhaust manifolds.

Between the oil cooler lines and the coolant sitnation I didn't want to risk driving the truck from Logan (northern Utah) to Vegas. So, I rented the trailer for 60 bucks (a total steal BTW), bought a hitch and towed it home in a blinding snowstorm.

'Camel Trophy Luggage' stickers for Pendy and SUE ROVER, just tell me where to send 'em.

So when are we replacing the head gaskets?

Oh, BTW...Sawz-All's can't be boarded on an air-plane as "carry-on" luggage...same category as box-knives I guess. They didn't say when I could get it back, either.

for future reference mike - hertz has a better 7k trailer more suited for the task - check out my pic in the gallery. $89/day, no questions asked, and has the doughnut ring.

94 CJ5????

I'll 'splain the '94 CJ5 comment.

She asked me what I'd be towing on the trailer and I said without thinking '94.....' then paused knowing that if I answered 'Range Rover' she'd look it up and see how heavy it was and not rent me the trailer. I knew a CJ5 would be light enough so I just said that w/out thinking that they weren't made in '94 (...or were they???).

How about "No longer a member of the "White Rangie in driveway on blocks club"?

BTDT-how'd it stop? Last week, I towed a SIII FFR 109 behind my Disco. I hadn't realized how much heavier the III was than my 88".

Good luck with the head job. KC comin' up to help?

Adam, you'll still always be 9V to me.

Thanks for making me laugh (and cringe at the same time).

If it wasn't so true it wouldn't be so damn funny.

You get a sticker too for being first runner up.

Not even sure they made any Cj's in 94. Maybe she thought you meant 84.

Sorry about your luck.

rangie on a trailer, behind a defender. the shame the shame . . :shaking: :shaking:

that still beats having to be paraded around on the losing end of the tow strap behind a DII at a jeep infested campsite (don't ask how i know).
