I have a 85 F350 diesel (2wd) with a granny 4 spd, I'm wondering if any of the new ford 5 or 6 spd trannys will bolt right up to it with out to many modifications?

I don't think it is too difficult to put at least the 5 speed into your truck. You should ask your question at http://www.ford-diesel.com Go to the 6.9 forum. Someone there will know. hope this helps

Bolt in!

Eiher the ZF5 or ZF6 should bolt right in. Biggest problem I'd see would be the clutch. I assume your 85 probably has a mechanical linkage, & I know the ZF5 I had in my 88 F250 was Hydraulic. I could be wrong on what you have there.
Going prices on a good used ZF5 are around $850+ down here right now, a ZF6 I'm not sure I'd want to know.

The clutch is hydrolic so that makes it easier.
