Hi Folks,

Just found this web site yesterday.

I want to do a spring over and run 38" TSL radials.

I have had my current Scout 20 years now. It's a 77 with a 79 Midas top, a 74 tub, and a 72 grill. She is now laying in about a zillion pieces all over the shop - in the middle of her second complete rebuild. The top is painted. The 345 is on a stand ready to go back in. I still have to go through the T-18 and D-20, add paint, roll cage, etc, etc, etc.

I have had reversed shackles and 4" Rancho springs and RS5000 shocks and 33x12.50/15 on 8.5" wheels under her for over 18 years.

I'm not a rock crawler, although I DO hit some pretty mean trails sometimes. The old gal has to be able to drive cross country, tow a small but heavy trailer and play in the mud and rocks too.

Kind of a all rounder - like she has been since 1980.

I have a D-60 rear and know where I can get a D-60 front cheap. (I have probably broken more than a dozen D-44 axle shafts and/or pinions over the years).

I'll be changing gears to 5.13. I know how to fabricate and weld spring perches and twist knuckles. I know I'll need a new steering arm. I know I'll need to move my front spring towers forward to get the tires away from the firewall. I don't want a body lift. I CAN get the sawzall out and trim and install tubs as needed.

What I need to know is what 21/2" wide springs to use. I was thinking maybe 21/2 Superlift Softride for C###y? Too soft? Not enough lift? Both ends? Ranch 44044? Too stiff? Too much lift? Front only?

I have a 83 C###y Suburban with Rancho 4" and that thing is the stiffest piece o' crap. Bounce. Bounce. It'd kill ya in 100" wheelbase.

What I'm looking for should ride similar to what it is now - and yeah, I know, it won't have near enough flex for all ya'll.

Thanx

Look at the 44044 post...looks like they work great for Scout II's. Also, look at after market Wranglers..however, I would go with a 4" wrangler due to the heavier weight of the Scout. The 44044 are from a waggoneer and they seem about the same weight as a Scout.

Hey Scoutdude and others,

Well, I allready read the 44044 thread, as well as EVERY thread in the last 60 days, and am still working on the last year.

I haven't had much luck using search yet - keep getting "not found" - got to figure out the search criteria.

So, now, I THINK the 44044s are the way to go on the front - I will probably be happy with a little stiffer than ya'll.:D
What about the back? How about the distance from the front tower spring eye bolt to the frame shackle bolt?

Plus, I'd still like to know if anyone has used the Superlift Softrides for Ch##y. My guess is too soft?

Thanks guys, sorry if ya have already answered this 100 times, I'm a newbie on the board, but not to wrenchin', wheelin', or fabbin'.

Maybe one of these days I'll answer a question for ya.:smokin:

Abba,

Stock Ch##ys?

I have had about 10 Ch##y 1/2 ton 4x4s.

Probably have VERY little flex under a Scout.

I don't want a lot - but I want some.

Bounciest, worst ride I ever been in!
