: FJ55 V8 conversion- Radiator???

just finished the V8 swap, and now I am in need of a radiator (the stock one is shot). A larger capacity radiator would be nice, but I don't know if I want to mess with fitting it in there. The only thing I have found is a 4 core for the F engine. Any thoughts??
Thanks for the input.

Do yourself a big favor - get the biggest Chevy-style cross flow unit you can fit - which is pretty big considering the engine compartment. Fab yourself some brackets, and have done with it. There has been much debate here about the efficacy of various radiators - the result is - more surface area the better. The 4 core Cruiser ones work for some folks - I had no luck myself - went to an aluminum Chevy unit 19x26 - works great - cheaper that the CCoT 4 core units and other aftermarket Cruiser rads. HTH

I agree! Check Summit for prices. They have the Howe aluminum ones in all sorts of widths. Ran a 19"x26" in a friends FJ40 V8 conversion and it NEVER came off the 180 deg thermostat temp, even in traffic during the summer. The Aluminum ones cool SO much better than the copper/brass. I think the Aluminum ones are two core, but the cores are 1" so it's still thick front to back. Also, run either a factory clutched fan or a GOOD flex fan. A fan shroud REALLY helped on my truck. Fan should be set in 1/2 depth of the fan and have about 1/2" space on the outside edge of the fan to the shroud.

I used a 55 rad in my 40 with 350. It is a 4 core, and I never have had a problem keeping it cool.

Thanks guys- I'm checking out aluminum radiators right now. I was told that I need a radiator with a heater hose fitting also. Or should I try to run both heater hoses off of the block? sbc350 with a performer IM.
Thanks again. <IMG SRC="smilies/fj.gif" border="0">

You can get a radiator with the fitting or a "T" for the lower radiator hose to run the heater. Run one line from the water pump heater fitting. Run the return to the radiator or "T". Check out Stealth Conversions for the"T" for the lower radiator hose. I think that creates the most efficient flow of coolant through the heater.

I used a Ford Xflow with my Cleveland other than trimming the inner guards it works a treat ( and thats with just a thermo fan on the front of it)
