Hey guys, I've been really quiet here, but need to surface for some help.
Elisa's '93 LWB rangie is making noise from teh c/v's(at only 200,000 miles)
I filled teh balls up maybe 3/4 with 90 wt for now to quiet it down, but know I will be needing to do more serious work ASAP.
as I see it I have a few options:
one - buy one? or two? new cv's (pricy!)
two - buy "good used" c/v's (better deal for a cb, but worth the chance?)
three - canabalize the ones from the '95 disco(but was told by BritPac that they are different?(different abs system so??)..and that leaves the Light Brigade stranded..not good
four - drive over to vegas and "borrow" Mike's as his engine is now copying my disco's
or....
five - rebuilding the units??
I remember talk about rebuilding c/v's a few years ago...on one of the lists...
well what do ya suggest?

. . .option 6 - p/n TDJ000010 from http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk
these are generics, but if the rigs isn't wheeled . . . .~$280 w/ shipping.

nah! same price as BritPac...a good price I guess if you have teh loot, but with the disco possibly needing a replacement engine(still overheating after re-doing teh heads) one series in need of head-job and re-design of manifold system(mercruiser 140 engine) I managed to total Elisa's Series III last month while using it as transprtation while working on the disco...so...my rover budget is slim and needs to be spread out right now
...besides like many am a cheap guy that likes to do things myself. rebuild many vw cv's before and figured before I go out and do all teh research and do it from scratch, I'd see wha others have done before

that was for both . . .
do a search on the chrysler CV's; might need to use "minivan" as a keyword

you sure it's the CV's that are making the noise? Could be a motor mount clicking or some suspension bushings clicking.
I don't know how far you could go on CV's that were 'blown'.
You could always do the NAPA rebuild with some early Chrysler mini-van CV internals, but that won't help you if the bell is messed up.
IMO you ought to find some used CV's and swap them in. If you're nervous about driving around on blown CV's you could pull the driveline and hub flanges and run it in rear wheel drive.
I have one CV bell awaiting the NAPA rebuild, it's out of my '90 RRC. I also have two complete swivel ball assemblie's, axles, hubs, knuckles, brakes, etc...even the axle housing that's been beefed up with a sewer cap diff-guard for sale.
I always figured if I blew up a CV I could just swap knuckles and be good. If you are in need of some CV's you could get these and my engine for a sweet price.
:(
Head gaskets here I come.....

aha! now I like THAT price! may hae to just go ahead. maybe get a better price on the right power mirror and other parts.(Elisa sorta hit a drunk homeless guy with the LWB last month so we need some parts besides teh cv's)
now regarding teh chrystler cv's??? I will start a search, but without the specs for teh rover one, I am not sure how much good it will be? I think i may need to have it im my hand with the calipers etc first huh? :-(

hmmm! well that had come to mind, but when I filled the swivels with 90 wt, the sound subsided(for now?)

didn't say they were blown...just clicking on turns...was scaring Elisa...and I didn't tell ehr about what could happen if one really blew...

how sweet! (offlist here mike!) Elisa rally is stressed about this as it is her only transportation due to my little incident with her series...
any idea of what from the chrystler minivan to use? is just cage and balls, or other parts? I'm sure teh stub axle/bell is a rover only part...as is the inside "star" right? but...
I don't think Elisa will accept the idea of removing the front driveline even for a short time as one of the schoole she has students at is up i the mountains in the snow...so it's gota be done right one way or the other...
