Someone came over to buy some GTO stuff from me, pissed me right off, and I swore I would fab up a 4 link coil rear for my XJ before, I sold it to that SOB for a car he was restoring.
So, I get a tape measure and break out the big ol' Mitchell Interchange book.
Before I start getting bashed, or :rainbow: newbie :smokin: crack, crap, I did check in so :flipoff2: nice to meet ya'll.
Some axle info:
For those that don't know GM cars from 64 or so up, have a 4 link coil rear w/ 10 or 12 bolt. Chevelle, Lemans, Cutlass(A body) also some of the bigger cars Bonnivlle, Catalina etc.

Carrier housing has 2 cast mount's on top for UCA's, axle housing has 2 for LCA's, coil sping perches also.

This is a semi floating design, with a bearing retainer.

Pinion is offset to the pass. side, use's same length axle L & R.

Pinion rides about a 1/2" below center line of axle.

3" OD axle tubes.

A body axles 28spline/1.208"
Full size 31spline/1.330" 64-69 Pontiac.

65-69 10 Bolt 8.2" RG/1.438/27 spline pinion.
70-up 10 bolt 8.5" RG/1.626/30 spline pinion.
65-72 12 bolt 8.875" RG/1.625/30 spline pinion.

I measured a 65 Pontiac A body axle, the housing is almost a bolt up to the width of the 35 or 8.25 I've taken out of my XJ's.

So, my use would be for a 4 link coil fab. into a Cherokee XJ,
96'4.0L HO motor, 35 or 36 tires with 4.88 or 5.13 gears.

Your comments or experience's please...

Sounds interesting..............but the only one of the axles that would net much strength increase would be the 12 bolt and where I'm from, you could sell the 12 bolt and buy 3 or 4 Ford 8.8's., which would be a much more cost effective swap (and stronger, with DISC BRAKES).

The benefits of a 4-link over a properly set-up leaf setup would be minimal, esp. on a long wheelbase rig, definately not worth the cost involved, but it would be a fun project:)

Keep us informed.

Hellbender, looks like you've spent a lot of money on your rig yet I see your running a d30/35 set up, and have a factory coil link rear, already. I like that ford axle can you get me one for a $100. with disc's :rasta:

I put that site together when I had had my TJ only 2 months, it's evolved a little in the last 2 years, but I left the website as is, because 98% of jeepers benefit more from the mods I had then.

I now have a full 4-link triangulated, high clearance long arm suspension (one of the first built, that I know of) w/ a Ford 8.8 in the rear (Detroit & 4.56's), Flat skid, Q78 TSL's, etc. etc. I don't post much anymore, I tire of the stupid egotistical bull sh*t on the public boards.

Hellbender,I've been collecting my parts, to start my build up. I come for the tech, what works, new idea's etc.
I'm dissapointed your site does not show the ford axle fab.
Yes, alot of BS, it's public and it's free so, you have to sift thru all the BS.

If Photopoint comes back up, e-mail me for a link to my p-point acc't. I have a ton of stuff on my suspension and rear axle build-up there, if you're interested.

I'm getting ready to do a Jeep project, and the frame is shot, so I'm considering fabricating a frame...

I haven't decided on axles yet.
I'm leaning in the direction of Dana 44 front and 44 or Ford 9" rear.
(I'm a hot rod fabricator, so I've got a lot of experience with 9" rears... I've often cut them down for IRS and inboard brakes)

I'm interested in your 'Long Arm' suspension.
I'm familiar with full 4 link from the race cars, and unequal length from the street rods, but 'long arm' and 'triangulated' are terms new to me.
(it's probably the same thing I've been working with, just using a different name in the off road circles)

If you get your picture site back up, please post the web address (and/or links).
If you have time to write a short explanation of your 'Long Arm' and 'Triangulated' suspension mods, I'd appreciate that too.

Thanks, Aaron.
