Hey Guys,

I'm planning on slapping a rear winch on my Discovery in preparations to our 1st challenge this year at the Rain Forest Challenge in Malaysia and was wondering which one would be best suited for the rear of the truck?

RE is a worm gear drive, meaning that the braking is inate and safe, however, it is slow...very slow...

I have an M8274-50 up front, so the idea of having the same winch out back is tempting, (spares...etc), and the external braking system is great, but will it be better than the RE?

I am willing and able to fit either of these winches, and either one will be fitted with Rockstomper's rope+fairlead...

Your thoughts...

if you like the 8274, and you like the speed, and can fit it...I'd say go for it.

The redundency of having two of the same winch is nice as well...

I'd go for the RE on the rear or a Superwinch Husky both worm wheel drive , the 8274's brake isn't really up to lowering out very far the pad cross section is small, On the 2001 RFC video there are a couple that let go dropping the motors into a river down a very steep hill.

I have just fitted the Husky to the rear of my Defender and am very pleased with it.
