: Best solid axels to swap
Hey all,
for my second Pathfinder project, I'll go with 2 solid axel as everyone had could expect.
I'm not a begginer at this thing but I was wanting to share opinions. What would you swap in and from what? D44, toys axels... 9" 8.8"... considering stock gearing, price of lockers, price of brakes...
I want to have good low gears stock if possible... the goal is to run 35" locked!
Thanks for sharing opinions and experiences!!
onlyonedr 01-04-2004, 11:06 AM Go with the D44 so you can at least find one with the driver's side drop, unless you are going to swap out the drivetrain and get a t-case with a passenger side output. It seems like too much work to me to rebuild a toy axle for driver's drop to make it worth it.
A 9" is always a sure thing for the rear of a lighter weight rig.
You have to remember that the Nissan factory low-range is kind of weak at 2.02:1 as well, so you will either have to swap out the drivetrain or drop $1300 on Calmini crawler gears if you really want to crawl with that size tire.

Yeah you are right... I'll have to think about it before doing anything stupid! :D
...I was guessing about putting the drivetrain out of a F250-350... so I would get all in one... but I'm not sur about a V8. I heard the 300ci to be a good torquer and to be reliable. An C4 or C6 would also be my choice... I'm the one of those you think it's better to have an auto tranny out on trails.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I think you should use a f250 d44 with high pinion and a rear d60. The axles will be wide so you might need to shorten them, but the front will be leaf spring ready and drivers drop. Front ends come from all 4x4 f250's from the 70's. Rear 9" is a good choice too, or just build custom axles for your fine ride!:D
Do you think the stock auto tranny of the V6 (Path 87-89) is strong enough for a trail rig? I just rebuild it on my other one and cost me an arm and a leg... It's normal after 230 000km of abuse, but once done... I expect about 100 000km of good service from it. If I can cope with my X-case, the rest of the drivetrain is good enough? Maybe I could just swap in the front axel!
Any comment?
720Finder 01-04-2004, 11:17 PM How about using the 5-speed, keeping the the stock t-case and putting on a second one with better gears? The one thing that I could think of that would be a problem would be drivelines. Just an idea...
bignissan 01-06-2004, 06:38 PM d44 and 9" are most common, that's what i have...one day a d60 up front. the stoc auto tranny is fine...you're in low range anyhow less stress on the motor and tranny...
D-RAT 01-06-2004, 07:13 PM A 300 I6 is a great engine, but is too long for a Nissan engine bay.

i have dual cases with the stock one up front then a 720 case behind that...I want to get the gears for the front one but I'm not sure how well the rear one will hold up to the tq....

Seems a good deal, maybe I'll keep the H233 on the rear I heard it should be stout enough... but if I come across a 9" with the D44 I'll take it... From which vehicule I can swap... EB I guess... any other?
Thanks all for your comments
bignissan 01-07-2004, 10:18 AM the hb233b is VERY strong....the problem iis gearing and lockers..they are $$$$$ the 44 you need one out of a wagoneer to keep the 6 lug bolt pattern and they match up to the width REALLY close...that's what I have, but then went full width in the rear so i have 2" adapters up front now..I'm going 60 up front one of these days when I move to 44's....
rednekit 01-07-2004, 04:15 PM gut that bitch and dropin a stroked 383, th350, np203,np205, hp dana 44 don't cut it down and a 35spline 9".
now thats what you need to run.:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
onlyonedr 01-07-2004, 07:15 PM For the transmission, you could do like suggested above and swap to a 2wd 5-speed and use a divorced Toy t-case, NP205, or an Atlas.
If you do decide to do that, BUY MY 2wd V6 5-speed!

Do any year of Wagoneer will do the job? I think that some got a Dana12 or something12... by the way, for the look I'm abble to see the difference easily but which year should I searh on ads?
And do the width was the same along the years also?
Thanks
XterraGuy 01-08-2004, 11:09 AM Bignissan, have you ever posted pics of your dual t-case setup? I know people have asked, but I've never seen them. I'm really curious to see how you did it without absolutely killing the clearance underneath.

BC Ace 01-08-2004, 03:06 PM My plan is to run a divorced Toyota tranfer case behind my stock one with this kit:OTT Industries (http://www.ottindustries.com/divorcetoyota.htm) .
You then have a passenger side drop and can run a Toyota front diff.
bignissan 01-09-2004, 01:13 PM i have posted pics of my dual t-case at one time...but i don't know where they are now. i am out of town right now, if you email me at shortysoffroad@yahoo.com i'll send you some pics
