what is it that make a vehicle start to hop(bounce)? is it axle wrap? too stiff? too soft? just thought i'd see if anyone had any ideas:question:

axle wrap causes wheel hop.

too much gas Not enough traction and not wanting to look gay and not make It !!!

sometimes to much traction not enough momentum soft spring will result in wrap or driveline issue's or bent springs, axleshaft's

last time I broke I was just lazy and did not want to take a different line ( hard headed my wife says  ) and just stepped on the pedal ! and guess what I broke my rear deiveline and my traction bar heim! ! DOH! my fault but what does this mean
back to the drawing board!!!

coilovers help out alot !!!! or good shocks that eat up the bounce sway away or bilstein expect to pay excess 250 or more for 1 good shock !

i kinda figured it was the wrap, and soft shocks. going with the sams style bars front and rear. i have 5000s now, would 9000s help cause i could adjust them a little harder?:usa:

yep After I broke my traction bar I stiffen the setting of the shocks and it helped alot at least for the weekend !! when you have more weight it 's nice to be able to turn it up a notch

when you need it !!!

Adam,
Seems to me that a rig with a link-style suspension would hop because of a li'l too much anti-squat (IE, when you gas it, your ass end picks up a li'l because of the geometry of the susp)... If this were the case, then when the tire got traction, the truck would raise a li'l, and when the tire slipped, the truck would drop, and in dropping, cause a bit of an increase in contact pressure, gaining some xtra traction, and then the whole thing repeats.

But that's just a guess. :flipoff2:

if your talkin about wheelhop on obstacles, i.e. climbing over, then wheelhop is somethin that just happens. i get wheelhop when i let the tires spin too much grabbin for traction, they grab then slip then grap then slip, on and on till you make it over. i have traction bar, welded diff bla bla bla, it just happens when the tires slip. but i think it does happen more/easier without traction bars due to axle wrap.

Watchin gthe ARCA rigs I found that the leaf sprung vehicles like Durhams truck never bounced, but the 4 link tj coil trucks bounced like hell.

When mine bounces, I can crank my 9000's to 5 and it will mostly stop.

Too much weight, not enough shock is the formula that you don't want for wheel hop.

I just want to give some props to ColdNorth! I had never thought of that before...

Something funny:
My friend built a four link that has so much anti squat that he can drop the clutch on the street and his driver side front tire comes off the ground! Its pretty funny to watch him drive around...

The front end of my IFS Toy hops more than the front end of my solid axle Toy! Not sure why--but it does!
