: Valve spring Question

Has anyone ever changed valve springs on thier 1.3 with the head still on the motor still in the truck? I think my springs are weak, I adjusted the valves to spec and at like 4,000 rpm the valves sound like they are floating and ticking away. I dont have a compresser to fill the clyinders with air to hold the valve up, I am thinking of putting a long pice of rope into the clyinder and rotating by hand untill the rope is in between the piston and the valve, so the valve dosen't drop into the clyinder,I will be doing this on the compression stroke so both valves will be closed. when i did the valve adjustment, i was suppreised to see i could push open the valves with just a little bit of pressure is this normal? Thanks for any help. Chris

You're going to need to remove the cam sprocket and sheetmetal cover so that you can pull out the rockershafts to remove the rockers. Then 'You can' do the spring replacement. Just be sure to start @ TDC and reinstall the rockers & shafts @TDC

BTW, doing it this way is a level 4; 4 being the hardest way

thanks for the heads up, I really haven't investigated it yet, I'll have to check my manual and see if they do a step by step for valve spring RR. I thought the rockers and shaft were bolted to the head as one unit, I didn't know i would have to remove the cam, i figured it could stay as long as it's not in my way. Thanks, again.
