: Part time 4wd conversion

Hello
I have an LT95 Range Rover gearbox that I am going to fit into a Series 2B Forward Control Landrover (in order to have a stronger gearbox)I wish to convert this Full Time box to Part Time 4wd.I intend to modify the centre diff along the lines of removing the planet wheels and weld/bolt the rear prop sun wheel to the carrier. The only problem I can see is supporting the rear end of the front output shaft where it enters the diff.Without the planet wheels there is nothing to stop the front sun wheel floating back towards the rear one,it would need some sort of spacer in between. Also I don't know if this front sun wheel would last if used as a constantly turning bush/bearing.I know this conversion has been done as I spoke to someone several years ago who had done it himself.Does anyone have any ideas about how to support the rear end of the front output shaft?
Also does anyone know of anyone who manufactures such a conversion for the LT95(NOT the LT230 as I know Timm Cooper/BCB do one for this)
Any ideas very welcome.
Thanks a lot
Richard

I'm pretty sure BCB has also done the conversion for the LT95. I'd check with them as I think they have made a spacer or spool for this transmission. I have considered doing this to the LT95 in my 110.

Richard,

The LT-95 I have in my '53 hybrid has had the part-time conversion done to it.

Timm did not find a spool that would fit it, so he did a similar modification to the one you are contemplating.

He also did some fancy machining and fit a sealed bearing in there somehow to support that shaft.

IMO you should ship your transmission to BCB, have them do the part-time conversion for you and install low-ratio gears into it. I am doing the opposite conversion, replacing my low-ratio high-range gears with some higher-ratio high-range gears (the ones ironically that you have in your Range Rover LT-95).

Are you going to run free-wheeling hubs on your IIb? If not, you should start thinking about it. I'm not sure if the Eaton axle has hubs for it or not. Ike (Leafsprung) should know.

Good luck!

Hello
Thanks for your replies.I contacted Timm at BCB and he is making me a conversion for my LT95.
VERY reasonable price as well.
Can't wait for it to arrive!!
Michael- I have free wheel hubs fitted to my forward control.Wouldn't be without them.
Thanks again
Richard
