: front spool
bent70 12-24-2001, 12:54 PM Is the steering that bad? I am to cheap to spring for a detroit need the money for other stuff.:D This would be for a rc60 under a eb with 39's using a f-250 steerin box. I plan on using it on california terrain. (rocks and trails ie. hollister) What do you think?
pcorssmit 12-24-2001, 12:57 PM I think you should do a SEARCH, NEWBIE. :flipoff2:
Pete
Sillyneck 12-24-2001, 01:15 PM You can have a selectable locker if you have a spool...it's called a passenger...leave the driver side hub locked and have the passenger get out and lock and unlock the other hub as needed :D werx fine if you have a fit passenger or a fat ass that wants to get fit. :D
NE-RokToy 12-24-2001, 02:01 PM lockright and twinstick transfer case = $250 selectable locker
If your gonna go for a spool, why not just weld it? I have never seen a difference in the two. I dont understand why peopl spool unless it is for the fact that they might someday wanna change back to an open diff or a locker, but even in that case all you need is a new carrier and spider gears (which I already have 2 of for my cehicle).
Anyway, good luck!
bent70 12-24-2001, 02:32 PM Did the search:flipoff2: just found bs and piss wars with no true opinions. I like sillynecks idea it helps a:cow: Would a lockright just brake.
From my experience I can't see how a locker would differ with a spool while turning. Usually power is being fed to the diffs locking them when I make turns. The only difference would be easier steering off the gas but the most times you do that is on road in two wheel drive with the front hubs unlocked anyway.
TyTy I am going to need a new carrier anyways because the the ratio split.
nuttzack 12-24-2001, 08:10 PM I have a spool up front and works just fine! I didn't weld it because I dont think that is as strong as a spool, and if those welds ever give way and break it could fuck up your gears! No thanks man, go for the spool!
aaronlosey 12-24-2001, 08:15 PM go for it, it just feels like you lost a bit of power steering. and you can beef up those girly arms:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
WideJ 12-24-2001, 09:11 PM spool it, then get some u-joint changing tools
bent70 12-24-2001, 09:37 PM I'm definetly getting a spool for the workout:flipoff2: So far it's my best option.
thanks all:beer:
FULLSIZE 12-24-2001, 10:25 PM weld it, spool it, just get that lazy tire going! NE-rok toy, sounds like you need to get your rig running. then post opinions:flipoff2:

when you are in the middle of nowhere and your farm-tech weld job fails as they do....then maybe you will undersdtand. :D spools are inexpensive and bomb proof

yep. we welded a front d44 for a buddy of mine and it wouldn't steer for crap. it wasn't that it was hard to steer but rather it wouldn't. it was very limited. unlock the hubs and the problem was gone. i really recomend a locker in the front. i have had a full detroit in my old d44 and now my dana60 and i have not had those problems with them.:D
