I seen a few samis with d30s and 35s hold up pretty good.

Do they make gears lower than 4.88:1 for the D30?

I saw 5.38's listed in the 4W Parts Wholesalers catalog for
standard rotation D30's.Don't know what brand they are.

not really, they have same size joints as a dana 44, and are HP's they are pretty strong little front end. they hold up fine to 35's in TJ's so why wouldn't they in a lighter less powered tracker?

All that work on an SAS and no rock sliders...

Looks good. The local shop here is doing the same swap with a 3 link front, a 4 link rear. they are using a retubed YJ HP30, and a d35 with the super kit. they just had them laying around.

Looks like a CJ d30, which is standard rotation(5.38's are avaiable), small 260xujoint, and weak external hubs. It should hold up fine for light-meduim duty wheeling under a tracker. Carry spare hubs though :D

Oh yeah welcome to pirate newb:flipoff2:

Hi my first post,

Thanks Carlos for posting the Pics.:D.

And all of you thanks for your comments.

Claudia (*)(*) its my wife, she is my pilot in competitions, I’m the spotter, mechanic and Household.

Indeed, it’s a front CJ d30 4.88 with Tj´s 4” front coil springs in the front and rear, rear stock 4.88 differential. F&R Arb´s, 4.24:1 Calmini Tranfer gear set.

Rock sliders, what for? Who cares? Probably in the future to hide the fractures.

In a few more weeks I'll document and post the mods. OK.

Here is its new look with 33´s 12.5, Bf sponsor for all 2004.

If you split the rocker panel at the spot welded seam at the bottom and then spread it apart, a 3" X 3" piece of square stock will fit in there "perfectly". I used .250 wall and it can support the entire vehicle weight no problem. Visually the rocker will now be square instead of rolled , but it works relly well. Here's the best pix I could find tonight, I'll get close ups if your interested.

Nice Rig, excellent idea.

Sure I'm very interested and also I was planning to extend the rear arms like yours, did you extend just the outer arms or also the inner? Any pics. In advance many thanks. Roll cage my next investment.

I didn't extend the rails at all....I just cut the rails off and replaced with new ones so that departure was better and protected gas tank.

I can speak from experience that D30 will not hold up to a 1.6 motor and reduced t-case.......... :p

Rear axle:

http://www.4x4brasil.com.br/forum/arquivos/publico_foto2.jpg

Both sides on the same fawking obstacle at virtually the same instant, SNAP, SNAP....... And then, when I began to really get on it :p ,the front axle carnage was even worse. The R&P exploded and took out the ARB. No pics of it, but the locker is a write-off..

The D44s are being prepared as we speak......;)

That's funny, both U joints are still perfect. Good pics billj

I think you have a small shaft syndrom :flipoff2:
BTW, if D44 was SOOO close in strenght to D30/35, why would they have different axles to begin with and why would everyone was so excited about the TJ Rubicon's diffs...
Also, it's the torque (spinning force) that brakes U joint's and shafts not the weight of the rig... ;)
But I guess it's a jeep thing, I wouldn't understand it

Oh, ya Beto_Mty, nice ride, none the less. Good effort Welcome:flipoff2:

I apologize I misunderstood your question......You are asking about the trailing arms on the rear axle. Both are redone pix attached!

I know, dude, I had the extreme pleasure of being stuck in the middle of one of the biggest wastes of bandwidth threads on this forum. Wasn't aimed at you in anyway, I just found your comment entertaining, and wanted to play, too. I'm done now, the point has been made. :flipoff2:

nice looking set-up. I would think the dana 30 would be fine under a tracker. I ran the one in my TJ with everything from 31's to 36's with alot of dune jumping, mud, but no rocks. I also had the CJ dana 30 in a 4x4 converted datsun with a nice buick 3.8L motor and never had any problems. For me it would be a waste to go from a dana 30 to a dana 44. Same U-joints, same outer shafts, the only thing the dana 44 would have on a standard rotation dana 30 would be ball joint size. The high pinion dana 30's should have about the same strength as a low pinion dana 44. But the pinion and ring gear isnt much of a weak point anyway. I wouldnt use one for a rear stear application though.....

THE OLD RIG SUCKS!!!!! :barf:

I LIKED EVERY MODIFICACION :D hahahahaha

About the strength of the D30..... :shaking:

Stock( with ARB ) '85 Cj Jeep front dana 30
(U-joint tore the ears out of the shaft).
Broke few sets when running 33" Bfg´s mud.

Beto_Mty Congrat...your Rig is Awsome....

That stuff can happen with 20 year old parts. Upgrade with some Superior
or Warn shafts and they'll never brake on 33" tires.

the cj d30 is weaker than the yj high pinion reverse rotation d30
