: Multiple eBay gripes...

1. People who don't leave feedback
Is it that hard? I try to have good communication with people who buy my stuff, and always leave feedback either as soon as I get payment, or as soon as the customer gets the item and lets me know it meets their expectations. But some people just don't leave feedback in return

2. Deadbeat bidders
I got my first one in December - sold a golf club for $78 and the buyer still has not contacted me. I was generous and gave them ovr 2 weeks - after all, it is a busy time of year. So now I am going through the Non-paying Bidder process on eBay, and I doubt it will go anywhere either, but gets my fees returned so I can re-list or offer to the second high bidder. What a PITA...

3. Local buyers who insist on shipping
I just sold 2 cookbooks to a lady in Nashville... literally lives right here close to where I work. Both books sold for $8 combined. I offered to meet her somewhere and save her the $3-$5 it will cost to ship these things, she declines... I sold another one to a guy next town over, and he was more than happy to meet up and save himself some money. Maybe it is a woman thing, who knows

4. Deadbeat Sellers
Won an auction back in October for a drill press - seller was here in Nashville. I contacted him immediately and said to meet me and I will toss him some cash and take the drill off his hands. He replied that was fine. I try over the next few weeks and the guy just never follows through - even said he spent some time in the hospital for surgery and would straighten it out shortly. Finally last week I leave the guy *neutral* feedback, simply saying no money exchanged, but seller never followed through. Then I browse through some of his many auctions - and see he re-sold the drill press to someone else (for a whopping dollar more than my winning bid). WTF? Sheesh...

Anyway... those are my eBay complaints for the day :flipoff2:

If you don't ship it, then they don't get the buyer protection from ebay. Who knows, you might jack them for the $8!

Only one that doesn't bother me is #3. If they want to pay shipping, fine, fawk'em. But I'm gonna charge an extra buck or two for my hassle. (Otherwise l always charge only exact shipping for long distance items. People who charge absurd shipping amounts are another pet peeve of mine.)

I can't stand people who insist on shipping non-shippable items.

I had a guy win an auction for a d44 in Texas, and I explicitly stated in the auction I would not go out of my way to ship it.

I think you should include that list at the bottom of every single one of your auctions. :)

I say the same thing. But I had a guy offer to buy a rearend that I had, and he would pay all shipping so not a prob for me. I gutted it, sold some of the left over parts, wraped the rearend up in plastic, he sent ups to pick it up and it was gone. And there is always forward air. But I agree, make it worth my while before I even think about shipping a big ass item.

These two are the only ones i have probs with.
1. People who don't leave feedback
2. Deadbeat bidders

I had a friend who won an auction of a $8 part, next town over, he was too lazy to go pick it up so he had it shipped.

Yeah, no big deal to ship it - heck < iw as just trying to save her some money.

So she just got an invoice where shipping was 1/2 of the winning price of both items... oh well :p

People who charge rediculous shipping gripes me BIG TIME too :mad3:

I charge actual shipping cost, plus materials, and generally a dollar or less for my time and effort to package something up... sometimes a bit more if it was a tough item and I had to basically make my own box for it, etc.

I usually have my stuff prewrapped and include it in the auction.

By prewrapped, I go to the UPS store, plop it on the counter and say i need this wrapped up.

My shipping charges are a buck or two than normal, but nothing I've ever sent out has been busted..

Great.... remember that crappy drill I bought a while back? Trying to sell it and I get an email saying eBay removed the auction at the request of deWalt for some kind of voilation

Checking into it now - wonder what the deal with this is.

I see others like it for sale on eBay right now, but the are all blue... maybe DeWalt is claiming color infringement?

I hate buy it now stuff. Where there is no bidding. WTF???

Also people who start the bidding at $1, but the reserve is $500, and they tell you that in the text. If you KNOW that you want at least $500, why not just start the bidding at $500??????

a)if someonbe wants to buy my shit at what I think is a high price then I'm not about to stop them :) I don't often do buy it nows though. Or are you talking about where buy it now is only option? Yea I hate that as well

b)you save a few cents when you start with a very low price, Ebay encourages this activity by their sliding listing scale. I don't see any problem with doing that, and I do it myself. Whats it matter to you what the starting bid is? Plus in my experience people get weird and won't bid on something that starts high..its the whole "gee maybe I'll get a bargain but at same time I'll drive this price higher" mentality :) I don't understand people who bid with 5 days to go, I love em when its my stuff I'm selling but I sure don't get em :)

I pretty much refuse to bid on any auction with a reserve price on principle alone.

It is completely pathetic, and against the spirit of an AUCTION in the first place.

Even worse is like Paz says - when starting bid is $1, they TELL YOU reserve is $500... what is the point of an auction? Screw that...

Yeah, the second. I might as well just go to an online store.

I can uderstand that, but when it's explicitly stated in the text that "the reserve is $500", then it seems stupid to start the bidding at $1. And it's REALLY stupid to bid $100  I guess lots of people don't read the fawking auction before they pull out their checkbooks...

I also hate the fawking scammers...Hlaf the time I bid on something and lose, I get several emails asking for money to go via western union.

Ummm..against the spirit of an auction? Wrong!! Many real life auctions have a reserve in place.

And heres why I won't list something for starting bid of $500

Insertion Fees:
eBay.com and eBay Motors Parts & Accessories
Item Starting Price Current Fee
$0.01 - $9.99 $0.30
$10.00 - $24.99 $0.55
$25.00 - $49.99 $1.10
$50.00 - $199.99 $2.20
$200.00 and up $3.30

Item Starting Price Fee as of February 2, 2004
$0.01 - $0.99 $0.30
$1.00 - $9.99 $0.35
$10.00 - $24.99 $0.60
$25.00 - $49.99 $1.20
$50.00 - $199.99 $2.40
$200.00 - $499.99 $3.60
$500 and up $4.80

Why should I pay Ebay $4.80 when I could pay them just 35¢? Sure it's only $4.50 difference but I tend to try and keep my money then frivousley spending it where it doesn't need to be.

Also there is the Ebay game..you pull the suckers in with the low price, get some excitement going on the item and sell high :)

A lot of times those ARE online stores. Which I don't use on Ebay :) (I agree with you)

I got the 4runner 'Buy it now'. It worked for me :D

The difference on the insertion fee (the fee just to start the auction) between listing at $1 and $500 is pretty damn big. That's why they do that.

I always start all my items @ $1.00. I have sold some items that had reserves set to over $1k. It gets more folks in and bidding / watching your auctions. I did try starting auctions with bids higher @ one time but found in the end it would sell for more if the bidding was started @ $1.00.

I hate idiots that think just because they over spent thier visa this month that you will accept a personel check. IT is money order only beyatch or Paypal. and the usually no payers/no feedback leavers. those normal things.

One thing I hate is pictures or lack thereof. There are people who don't put a picture of the item in the auction, or they just copy some generic picture off the internet. If something has a scratch/dent on it, I want to see a frickin picture of it.

Unless It's new in the box, I want actual picture.

Picture stealer's piss me off too. I get several emails a week of people ganking copyrighted pictures off my company's web site to help sell their shit on ebay.

Damn it, I agree with DRM ... if the item has a reserve that isn't already met I don't waste my time.

I don't mind buy it nows ... sometimes I've needed something right away and no auctions are ending, but the buy it now is still a lot cheaper than retail.

ya no what i hate is a lame ass descriptinion
i gotta email them to get some info and more than often than not they got tons of info. come on fucki nput it in the auction.

i sell shit on there every now and then. usually saws, ive sold 25 er so on there.
i ship them ups, i build a crate for them and wrap it in cardboard(saves a buck or 2 on ups charges. the crate can damage other boxes but the cardboard covers it up). I charge 20 for it, fixed.
shipping is usually from 13-25 bux.
its worth it to box the fucker up like that.

i also hate people that end them eairly.
i was watchin one, bid on it earily causei had to go to work then fuckstick shitass on the other end cancles it wif 2 hrs to go cause he changed his mind.

my peeves:

1- outright idiots. I seem to have run into a few of these this week. One guy bid on and "won" a Prestolite ignition setup for a AMC V8 (first subtle sign of idiocy in itself), and then AFTERWARDS asked me what was included in the box (that was pictured and contents described in the listing) and if it all would fit his 343. WHY THE HELL WERE YOU BIDDING ON IT IF YOU DON'T KNOW, CHUMLEY?!?!?!

2- foreign idiots. Do the words "will not ship outside of United States" not have any direct translation into any other language?

As for shipping, I usually estimate slightly over what the calculators say and then refund the money if the shipping is well below that cost. Folks seem to be happy with that arrangement.

hehe.. I'm one of those nice buyers I guess.

Saw a guy put a N scale trainset up for bid at 19.99, but it now price at 24.99. I was just looking so I watched the item, it never sold, but similar sets around it sold for $30+

So, I thought, I could just buy it, but I'm not *that* interested in it yet. ok.. I'll bid on it at 25.00, so I get it for buy-it-now price worst case, OR, maybe the guy will get more for it since someone started bidding on it. I think it sold for $35 or something like that after I started bidding on it.

Figured, maybe ebay karma might pay me back in the future or something.

Well, well, well... Update to the deadbeat bidder gripe above:

This morning I get a PayPal payment for the total plus shipping, and the lady just says "sorry for the delay".

Lady, at this point your "feelings" are irrelvant, I just want your dang money so I can get you this golf club
