Sure they may get alittle hoter but it seems to work OK on quite a few rigs with out vents.

It's a useful thing to know the GVW of the vehicle the axle is off of. If it's within 15-20% of your truck's GVW then you're fine. It's not neccessarily about vented or not, but what heat load the brake was designed for - which is simply a factor of the GVW. Even if all you know is the year and model, someone on the list will probably know the GVW. Just be advised that if you're 20% over the GVW empty a heavy load will tax them.

Hehehehe........
This whole discussion is kinda funny..... :D

All the Mini guys are converting from the solid rotors to the vented FJ rotors...:p

Since I know the FJ rotors work on the minis, I would assume you could pick up a set of 79-85 4x4 truck rotors that would work. DO NOT use the 86-up rotors. Those are IFS and the offset is different...

Ask on the mini board, someone may be doing the vented swap, and you may be able to get a used set of solid rotors cheap...:)

Go do a search for "vented rotor" on the mini board to get more details.

I have ran mine for a season and so far they are working great. The ones on the mini I scored were still in good shape, so I figured I MIGHT think about a vented upgrade once they are worn out. :D
then again Im a cheap bastard.

The vented rotors(LC style) do cool better, but your not generating that much heat just driving or wheeling slowly. If you do want to switch to vented rotors, just use land cruiser rotors and V-6 IFS toyota p/u calipers... HTH

You can use '80-'87 Land Cruiser rotors and any IFS calipers (thru '94 or so?) as part of the mini-truck front disc brake swap. When I did the swap on my '71 FJ40 I used '85 truck axle parts, '87 IFS calipers, and new FJ60 rotors, all bolt-on.

my families been running 36" tires on mini truck discs and never had a problem...i'd say leave them for now...somewhere down the road, when you've got money, deal with it then. for now, it's fine.
