not sure if it's the right way, but I just tightened so that I couldn't really move the ball with just my hand, but with sticking a screwdriver through the bolt hole it was pretty easy to move.

I wonder too. I if I crank it down "snug," the nut still sticks out of the side of the outer ring. I *might* be able to get it flush if I really cranked it down, but it doesn't seem like I should have to do that...
I use a spanner wrench and tighten them as tight as I can by hand then go one more set screw notch with the hammer. Seems to have worked good that way for a few years now.

Isecond the tool idea and TDW. I have 7 of those suckers in the rear of my 3 link. They work killer.

I have used a spanner in the past. I now have a tool and torque them to 100ft lbs. (I called RE and they rattle 'em down with a 1/2" impact)

yea thats what i was thinking about making myself because as i recall RE wants like 48 bones or so for that tool. was wondering if anybody has made there own.
cool info guys heres the other question if i torque em down like to 100 ft/lbs will like you say will that cause any premature were, even thought it sounds unlikely seeings RE does it with the impact i guess.

It's $15 for the tool from PIG at www.polyperformance.com and well worth it.
I just crank on the as hard as I can with a 1/2" drive ratchet.

Never noticed any premature wear. I have only had to adjust them once.

it's called an adjustable pin wrench. it is basically what comes with most 4-1/2" angle grinders for tightening the grinder wheel on to the grinder, but the span of the pins is adjustable and spreads out enough to hit these two holes. the pins are not tight in the holes, so you still have to be careful, but it works.

I ordered the tools from RE...under $15 each.
Last time i rebuilt the arms i used two drifts mounted in a vice, a tad sloppy but it worked for me.
