I'm going to a salvage yard and need some help identifying a 205 T case (either Ford or Chevy). I know the years and such of trucks they came in, but that doesn't help me if they are not still in the truck. I'm assuming there are tags and castings on the case that will tell me what they are, but I don't know them. Can anyone help me out on what to look for and what the tags/castings might say?
Thanks - Adam

the tag will say newprocess for the company and for the model it will say 205 if the tags are still there

Well, there were no tags and they weren't on any vehicles so that's out of the question. However, I found a few pictures on other sites and believe most of what I was seeing were 203s. If anyone needs one...I can hook you up because I'm looking for 205s.

Here's some pics of a crusty Ford one I have, gotta love road salt. I'm not an expert on these, but I believe the key characteristics are the iron case, the big aluminum cover behind the front output, and the little 3 bolt steel cover over the countershaft. Also note the cast iron projection on the left for bolting to the frame.

From the top, note the broken bolts in the mounting lump;

Cool thanks. It seems that the road salt keeps the grease away though! All of the transfer cases had at least 1/2" (no kidding) of grease. Anyway, thanks for the pics...I'm going back to look some more and these will give me a little more help.
