It's something I can install in Outlook, much like I could install a news group, Internet Mail account, Microsoft Exchange server, etc..
Wondering if i could use this to view PBB though Outlook.

Nope, it's a directory service. If your company has an LDAP server, you can connect to it at home and see your companys global address book.

LDAP queries are useful for accessing any kind of information in an Active Directory environment.

Or even without AD. We use it here for session based authentication.
