A ford T18 input shaft should work. The input gear and cluster are the same between both. Make sure you pull the input shaft from a wide box, you'll now if you have a wide by looking at the input gear and syncro, if the gear is smaller then the syncro then you have a wide box. Make sure it's not a T98 as that aint going to work.

Are you sure they are the same between the t-18 and the t-19 . I've heard that the t-18's can swap around, but the t-19's 1'st gear is helicaly-cut and sycroed, and the ford/t-18 input is strait cut.

I've never *heard* of it being done... but that doesn't mean it can't. I only hear about the t-18-> t-18 wide/jeep swaps, using the Scout t-18 (only avaliable in close ratio), output and t-case adapter (and case??), with the ford wide input and gears......

My brother in law wants to do it because of the bellhousings. Right now he has a AMC 401 with a IH T-19. He swapped out the input shafts years ago. The problem is that he had to take a Jeep bellhousing and re-drill mounting holes. Now years later, it is starting to crack. I already asked why not just use one of the ones that IH used when they had AMC motors, but he thinks that they used the long input shafts. If he goes that route he won't have a driveshaft in his 5.

So does anyone know about the IH bellhousing?

Thanks !!

Only the back half of the trannies are different. The 18's use a large "ring" straight cut teeth for first. The 19's use a helical cut gear with syncro's. The input, 2nd and 3rd are the same between the two. main (output) shafts do not swap between the two. I had my head on backwards, the cluster gears are different, but only the back half.

To be safe you could also spec out the two shafts just to be sure.

Yes, IH used a special AMC to Long shaft tranny, bell housing. You can use them in long wheelbase heeps, with hydro clutch setup. I have one from a parts truck so I can confirm.

Yep... IH did have a bellhousing to use their standard length input shaft (longer than CJ and Ford truck, but shorter than J truck).

I was going to go the same route, AMC 360/IH T19/IH Dana 300. But got a hella deal on a ford front 60 and needed the driver side drop transfer case...

Those bellhousings are hard to find, and they're steel... it's not oging to crack.
