Not sure if the Vortec is the same for this but on a TBI if you start the engine turn it back off, start it, turn it off, then turn the ignition to run position the check engine light will blink codes at you in a Hanes manual you can look them up and see the problem. Also if the ECM detects a problem "ie" O2 sensor it will rember the problem for 50 starts if the sensor starts to work properly will forget the code after 50 starts or if it continues the light will just stay on. In your case I would just guess O2 sensor.

More than likely your gonna have to reset the computer. Get yourself a Haynes manual, it should explain what exactly you need to do. Is the truck still under warrenty???? If so I would take it to the dealer and let them fix it for their penny!:skull:

Resetting the caomputer is as easy as disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes. truck will drive a little different for a few day's They run fuzzy logic these day's and the truck get's use to your driving style. I would read the codes first. With that OBDII crap even leaving the gas cap off will throw a code.

Yep, a loose gas cap or even oil cap can throw a code. You can pick up a scanner on ebay for around $150. Most places charge $50-$65 each time to scan codes. So it's worth getting one.
I just had to replace a HO2 sensor on my wifes Tahoe. Would have never found the problem without the scanner. The Vortec 350 runs 4 HO2 sensors (2diff kinds). The computer only has to be disconnected for a couple of minutes (GM manual recommends 5)
