anyone got a good web tutorial on b&w photo processing?

the only thing i dont know how to do is the chemistry that is involved. i learned in college, and that darkroom always had the chemistry all mixed up and ready to go whenever i went in.

i also never actually developed my own film- i always had negatives done at wolf/ritz or somewhere. need some info on that as well.

im nearing completion of my 2 rooms downstairs, and one is going to be a darkroom. already got me a sweet ass 4 basin stainless sink im going to install, and my pal mark has all his darkroom equipment sitting in storage- he's going to set it up at my place so we both have somewhere to work. im excited :)

Dude, the mixing directions are pretty well laid out on the bags it comes in. Really :D Couldnt be simpler.

ya follow the box directions untill you want to do some custom chemicals, then ask back up and we will answer :D

im not so much talking about the mixing directions, i know its on the box/jug.

i'm looking for info on what chemicals i need to buy, what order i nede to go in, and a tutorial on how to do film developing--i know its a bit different than making prints. its been a while since i did it and i had someone who knew their stuff holding my hand. i dont even remember what chemicals we used in what order, i just knew that i went from left to right and had 4 trays :)

Developer, stop, fix and rinse ;)


Get kodak chems, they're the best I've used IMO. You'll need developer for film and paper.

and if you are cheap dont get the fix. water works fine for it :flipoff2:

Eh. ;) We could get into substitutes but.. ;)

so the stop/fix are the same for both film and paper? ok.

what about grocery store chemicals? ive heard of people mixing up their own concoctions and it works fine. any info on that?

i think ill stick to the basic stuff i can get at the local photo supply for a while.

im looking at adorama now to see what kind of stuff kodak has for me.

YES you can develop paper in D76. Dektol results are better.

Stop is acetic acid. You can figure it out from there Im sure... just dont get the cider or balsalmic variety.

ive heard citric acid works well too, i know thats cheap and available.

now that i have that figured out, let me ask this..

is there a good book you can recommend that tells me all about timing/temperatures for film processing and the ins and outs of paper developing?
