: Popping a bead...on purpose

I got a bunch of mud, dirt and other crap in between my wheel and tire again and this time it is really packed in there. Usually I can get rid of most of the air and scrape it out, but this time it is over a much larger section of bead and deeper as well and I can't get it all.

So, what is the best way to pop a bead without tire pliers and trahsing my tires or fancy aluminum wheels? Too cheap to pay the $15 for the local shop to pop and reseat.

Tires are 35x12.50r15 SSRs on 15x10 aluminums.

Thanks

let all the air out and drive it back and forth in the driveway while steering.or lay the tire on its side and hit the bead with a BFH sometimes this will pop it,or stick it under your bumper and use your highlift to push it off the bead.one of those will work. I am the king of garage tire works (aka to cheap to go to the tire store):D

Remove air valve, lay the tire under your rig's bumper, stick your hilift base on the tire sidewall- close to the bead, and hilift the rig until the bead pops off.

I do and at 330+lbs, it didn't budge. :flipoff2: Probably looked funny as hell to the people driving down the street and looking in the garage though

just as a side note- you may want to consider putting a piece of plywood or something between the bottom of the jack and the side wall. i've heard of people cutting/tearing their sidewalls accidently when doing this.

then they aren't doing it right, a piece of wood would make it not work as well.

I took a few tries positioning the jack base to get it to not jam the corners into the sidewall, but it worked great and didn't leave a mark.

Now reseating the bead was easy, but damn thats loud when it fianlly pops and echoes inside the garage!

What what??? All I said it was loud when the bead reseated. I was doing this all in finished garage that lets everything echo. Had a neighbor come out and see what the hell happened, woke him up.

paveman----sure it wasn't that air compressor churning away that woke him up?

Nah, he said it was the "loud bang". No one has complained about the compressor...yet :D

Hell it was 8:05am.... I gave him an extra 5 minutes!
