I'm thinking about purchasing an '88 sammi. it's in good shape with good interior and a straight body. no damage or fading. it has 138,000 on the odometer. the used car place is asking $2,500. is this too steep or is it reasonable. all i'm going to do anyway is make it a rockcrawler anyway. thanks. and sorry for the isuzu thing below.

Dont know what used car prices are out there, but if you look, for that kind of money you can get one built! though you would have to make a road trip probably.

Too much $$$ in my opinion  and not even FI!!!!:shaking:

That is too high. If you look around (at least around here), you can find a squeaky clean stocker for $1,250 to $1,750. I just bought a semi-beater with an real good EFI engine and running gear for $350. I would keep looking.

if your turning it into a wheeler, find one for 500-1000 and use the rest of the money to dump into it. you don't want that nice pretty body :D

Would I be getting screwed if I paid 3500 for a samurai locked front and rear on 33's with a 4:1 tcase a hard top, sprung over, with power steering and a 1.6L engine?

go cheap....the body is going to get messed up somepoint in time...inside is going to get muddy, wet, and if u break on the trail gressie.. there are alot of nice rigs for sale on here also check ebay, and autotrader..
a nice setup in my opinion for a sami because they are so light would be at least 1/2 to axles, locked, with about 6 inch of lift. coiled over on some astro van springs, with some 35 mtr's. cut fenders and a roll cage. don't forget about a winch and some low gears..

I just bought an 88 sami w/ 4:1 t-case, hardtop, 4" lift, mudders, etc. for $900 and it runs better than any vehicle i've ever owned! Cheap, built sami's are out there, you just gotta look around...

user car joint has to much markup.. this is not a vehicle to buy from a dealer unless you have the hookups there because they need to make their profit. search for a private deal. i picked up a '92 EFI and '88 for $500 for both (the '92 engine needed rebuilt and the '88 was for spare parts.. wrecked and half the engine missing).
