I have a YJ. I am planning on relocating the shackle mounts in the rear to below the frame. From the factory the shackle mounts through the frame... does anyone forsee any problems with relocating the mount to below the frame (identical to the front).

i have a friend who did it, it gives yah a little lift in the rear, and changes your pinion angle, but yah can correct that.

If my thinking is correct it will rotate the pinion up... so I should be able to remove the shims in the rear... correct?

why do you want to move them? if your not moving the shackle mount front or back just get a longer shackle its easier, stronger, and gives better flex. Long shackles are a good thing.

I already have a 1.5" lift shackle. I don't want to use a shackle lift for any more than that. Also, relocating the shackle will allow it to move farther to the rear during compression... (it won't hit the rear cross member anymore).

Considered buggy springs? This will give you what you are looking for plus some more droop. If you are worried about streetability rig up a lock down for them. BTW, the shackle will only hit the crossmember if you are using arched springs.

I considered the buggy... but for now I must live with cheap. I already have the mounts, and the welding is free... I am enrolling in college this month, so funds are VERY limited.

PS: I am using lift springs... 2.5" if you can call that a lift spring... :)

RECURVE, how did you mount the shackles to the frame....did you drill a hole in the frame then use U-bolts? i have seen them mounted by just using bolts going through the frame and the spring but your way seems a lot easier on a boxed frame

Click on this link. http://www.outdoorwire.com/4x4/jeep/tech/susp/3_4ellip/ It'll give you all the instructions. BTW, it's not my work but I will probably do the same thing on my rig.
