I want to install LED lights on the flat bed this weekend. I called truck-lite.com and got a part number for this light [60050R] this includes grommet pigtail and (26 diode) light.

sorry for the big pic
http://www.truck-lite.com/tl/tl/catalog/images/grap/sttl/stt/stt07hr.jpg

nearest distributer they gave me was some mom and pop shop and NAPA both charging 64.00 each... called them both, they said it was special order and both of them would not know the exact time of arrivel. is there any other place to go that sells this kind of stuff for a decent price? I would really like to see if I can get one this weekend or even today.

thnx guys.

I got my lights/grommet/pigtail here for 31.00: They have 60 LED diodes!!!

they ship out of fresno so it's only a day away by UPS. If you need them now, stop by your local truck stop.

If you are planning on using the vehicle on the street, the first thing I would look at would to be to ensure that the light/combination of lights will satisfy the FMVSS requirements. I.E. the LED lights in the back have ALL of the SAE Code markings required for your class of vehicle.

All of the ricers around here with their "clear" taillights have caused the po po to be very strict about this in an area where vehicle modifications have very little restrictions compared to other areas.

I got mine at a truck repair shop that specializes in large diesel trucks. I think they were $24 for the round style that I got. Look for a shop that sells parts for semi's and trailers. All the newer semi trailers are using them now.

Well since I spend my day working with some of the best LED's on the planet, I can assure you that all LEDS are NOT created equal. I have some LED's that singly are brighter than 50 of the ones used in the units with the 61 diodes.

The number of LED's in no way indicates the light output, unless they are using the same ones.

As much as I love LED tail lights and stuff are they really necessary on a trail only truck?

If you trailer your truck out and go wheelin wouldn't you want the most inexpensive lights?

Or is it just about the bling? :D

It's all about the bling... :p

Actually, with no body mounts to absorb any vibration, I figured the LED ones would last longer.
The fact that they don't stick through the panel as far was kind of a plus since my radiator and my taillights are kinda close together.
The totally waterproof is nice since my stuff won't be garaged. Probably not necessary, but nice.
Way-low amp draw is nice too... I tend to leave my marker lights on when I'm night-wheeling (helps me find my rig again) and coming back to a weak battery sucks.

Edit: So yeah, realistically, a buncha weak reasons justifying buying a more expensive part 'cause it looks cooler than the one that gets the job done. :rasta:

Don't forget that you may need to modufy the turn signal to work with LEDs...I have heard that LEDs have different resistance and require a different blinker switch...may even need some blinker fluid:flipoff2:

I already ran into this one... had to get real creative to make 'em work right. :( I don't plan to have any real signal lights at all, and even the spiffy LED-special blinker, doesn't work right with no incandescent bulbs in the circuit at all. :(

They do have a different resistance and the flasher may need replaced with a different one or a modification on the existing one to return the flash rate to normal. I blew it off and left it fast. If anyones doing it to a TJ here's the method (http://www.stu-offroad.com/cornerguard/led-3.htm). If you got something else go find it yourself.

well, I got the 60 model 26 diode oval light (x2) from a local mommy and poppy auto shop, I took them most of the competitors prices and they beat it. I got them for $45.00 each.

(Truck-Lite Super 60 Model (oval) grommet and pigtails) all came in the kit. he told me it would ship till monday, but I kept incisting, he made some phone calls and had them brought out to the front desk, I drove (45 min drive) to their warehouse and picked it up. I shall be installing them tomarrow. tahnks for all you guys help

is it all about the bling?
no its not all about the bling. when your truck sees almost 100 miles in a single day 6 days a weak, then you will appriciate some thing that will last and is reliable and quality made that dont crap out every other week. ( I lost count of how many bulbs I had burned out on my Daily drivers) :D

thanks again guys.

As far as $$$ goes "usa led" has great prices... I got the "bling bling" sequential turn signal lights... They have there own flasher:mad: So now, luckily my friend is an electrical engineer... He is combing over some capacitors to make the flasher "on/off" signal hold enough power to read a full 12v to the lights... Otherwise I thought about running 2 relays after the flasher to run the rear lights & tie in a dummy light to fake out the flasher to still run the front turn signals... Too complicated for just some T/lights but will be bad ass when done!!!

When I installed my LED taillights I got from a truck parts place with the grommets and pigtails for $48 total, I drove down to NAPA and told them what I was doing and they sold me a flasher unit that automatically adjusts itself, for like when you plug in a trailer and it messes up your blinkers. Cost about $15 or $20, but it just plugged in in place of the factory Jeep part.

Those only work up to a certain point, if you replace too much ohm load with low-draw LED's it won't even click over the electronic flashers (like this) That's an HD-10 I believe.

If you go all-led, most people get something like the Libertek fully adjustable timed flasher relay. I had to do that on my motorcycle.

Not a bad idea about the caps. Just don't overdo it, because if you do the LED's will stay on for several seconds after you turn off your blinker.

Best price that I was able to find on LED lights. $20 for the oval led lights + $1.50 for the grommet +1.50 for the 3 prong plug. I have had mine on my jeep for over a year now. I also have the round amber ones in front and have had no bulbs burn out. They are plenty bright as I ride my brake when going in reverse so that I can see where I am going. Getting these stupid things to blink correctly is another issue.
