I have never ran them, but have had friends who ran them. They didn't impress me on the rocks. In the mud they sling really good.I would go for a little wider tire.I ran 33/12.50 swampers and liked them.I now have the Q78/15 on my Blazer,These are like 35.5/10.50.I really like these.Aired down they grap awesome and in the mud they work great.I would have went for a 36/12.50 but I got these a couples months old for cheap,(already grooved even):D Just my 2 cents.Blazin:rasta:

I don't know about the SSR's, but from my experience the bias ply 34's suck on the rocks...

well, they are going to fit easier than any other tire of that diameter on a XJ. But, I have not been to impressed with them on the rocks. However, in the mud they are excellent. I was driving (highway speeds) to a trail with a freind on a hot day in Arizona, and the lugs started flying off. After that the tires were junk and Swamper said they must have been overloaded and wouldn't help him out. They were on a CJ5.

there not that great on the rocks cause the sidewall is way too stiff. they don't flex even when aired down way low.

I have ran a set for about a year now and think they do extremly well in the wet stuff, it is funny that some one else had a problem with the lugs falling off, swamper told me it was from driving on to low of air pressure:rolleyes: , so if there is lots of wet stuff in AZ then get'em, but I dont think i will recomend them for rocks.

The tire you describe doesn't exist. They have a BIAS-PLY 34X9.50 that's often referred to as "Special Service", but it's not an "SSR". SSR's are radials.

FWIW, the 34X9.50 bites harder in the mud than just about everything short of the 38.5X11 Bogger. I'd have 'em on my mud racer 'cept they're too small to work with my gearing (got Q78 TSL's instead). Not sure how they'd do in other terrains - imagine they'd SUCK in sand.

BTW, I've spoken to the marketing guys at Interco about 34X9.50's. Basically, I was wanting them to do this exact tire, but in a taller version - say 36X9.50. Would be DYNAMITE for my purposes. But, they said they get a lot of complaints about their very narrow sizes coming apart on pavement. They attribute MOST of this to guys running low pressures at highway speed & building up a bunch of heat. Even on a Jeep or Sammi, they'd like you to have 30+lbs of air in these for road travel.

has anyone had any problems with the Q78-15's coming apart on the hiway? I really like the way the work off-road and really don't air them up much past 20-25 psi for hiway use as it wears the center and not the whole tire.

Lots of guys run the 34x9.50's on sammy's and they seem to work good with the light weight. Stiff sidewall though!!

I've had mine since May of '99 - they've never seen highway (or high range for that matter). So, I can't help ya there :)

hey tex,do you really think the 38.5x11 boggers are the best in mud.i need a new set of tires and i my have mind narrowed down to that tire are the 38x12.50.i still don't know wich one to get.i drive mostly on rutted muddy trials and like narrow tires.give me your input on which one you like the most, only a few more days untill i order some,thanks...

Overall, I think I like the 38X12.50 a bit better. They don't dig in as much on the front end. BUT, the 38.5X11 has the best "bite" going. It is THE tire of choice for Super Stock Mud Drag Racing, and is even taking over the 40" class at the deep PIT races. Even though they dig in quicker than 39.5" TSL's, they provide so much better bite on the starting line that guys are using momentum to propel them farther into the slop before they bury themselves.

If you run on fairly greazy surfaces with some bottom to it, I'd give a big thumb's up to the 38.5X11. They just really BITE - 29/32's of tread depth (most of ANY Interco tire) doesn't hurt ;)

I ran these tires on my XJ for around 2 years. They did ok in all terrains. But I could have used more grip in the rocks. I am now running the NEW 34x10.5 swamper and it is a completly differemt animal. Much softer compound and easier flexing sidewall. The 34x10.5 is the best tire I have ran on the XJ to date. Go that route if your thinking about pizza cutters. The new compound is very similar the SX. The 34x10.5 is a biasply with 4ply sidewall. They measure 33.4 on a 15x7 with 28 pounds of air in them. These new tires are actually cheaper then the 34x9.5s. I paid a $125. I didnt need new tires but I was losing a few lugs every day with the old 34x9.5.........Go for this tire . You will not be disapointed.

I have a set of 34x9.5 Swampers on my '88 Toy pickup w/ no lift and a welded rear. They are really good on wet trails and mud. Could do better on rocks, but I think siping might help, I haven't siped mine yet.

If you get some, put them on 6" rims, not 7" like Interco recommends. I had a lot of problems losing beads on 7" rims, but not now that I switched to 6".

I didnt know they made a 34X10.5...that would be teh perfect XJ tire......and a 10.5 is much better than a 9.5 The bigO ST I run is basically a 10.5 width wise...it have been a great tire on the rocks...just wanted a little taller tire....get through rocker knocher this time.....diff hung up
