: busted all kinds of stuff today
Took my good friend wheelin in a very easy spot close to home.
Just a little playground type off road spot.
First obstical no problem
Second obstical... I couldn't make it and backed down.. Too slick.
3rd obstical SNAP! Right side Dana 30 front shaft / 297X u joint
No tools... No cel phone... Noone knows where we are.
Brake out the winch.. Try and bust the rest of the ear off the axle with the winch.
Fray the cable.. get cable stuck in front end.
bend front bumper
Get cold/wet/pissed..
Back up with cable stuck in axle @ the u joint. SNAP
BANG SNAP bang SQUEEK snap
Ok we are out of here. :D Limp home in 4 wheel drive.
Oh yea I forgot... On the first obstical I bent the front long arm on the TERAFLEX long arm kit... Now its bent too.
Oh well it was fun.... for all 3 minutes .....
Im4yotas 12-26-2001, 10:45 PM You don't sound too much like a "Zeus of the Sluice." Didn't take any tools...didn't take a cell phone...didn't tell anyone where you were...I guess I just don't understand:confused: It must be one of those heep things:eek: :D :D
Damn those weak heep dana 30's:) :skull:
You must not have been a Boy Scout. Maybe you've learned your lesson:question: But I think you'll do it again...You should probably just get rid of the heep and get a real rig:flipoff2: :p :p

Not a Jeep thing... bastages. I got a Jeep... letsee yeah.. OBA, carry enough tools to tear a jeep down and rebuild it, also some other odd tools for other rigs. Enough spare parts to replace all the axles, and all the u-joints at least once, brake lines, replacement tie rod and drag link, plus extra tie rod ends, etc. Enough fluids to empty my Jeep and refill it again (almost, don't carry enough gear oil). On board welder in the future.
Ever since I started carrying all that.. I haven't broke anything of any importance for getting off the trail. And usually my spares go to someone else in the group. :flipoff2:
gunracer1 12-27-2001, 09:36 AM yea but with the jap stuff you don't need all the spares.
afecko 12-27-2001, 09:59 AM Uh, yeah, two words, GOT BIRFIELDS?

wow, I got smakdown from newbies???
Ok first off Yes I was a boyscout. And yes I take tools when I plan on going off road.
We were shopping at the mall  spending out Christmas money and my buddy goes.. Is there anywhere around here to wheel..
(he was from around here then moved and is back for the holidays)
So I say Yea this place is fun.. lets go here.. And off we went.
That is how I came to get in such a sticky situation..
:rasta: And to make matters worse. I already bought the axle shaft and had it with me... But no tools to change the dam thing.
I am sittin there lookin at the axle thinking DAMN If i only had my tools...
AS far as the axle bustin thingy.. Once the short side went at Wellsville, Tommy and I figured that the long side would be next because it lost it's FLUXAUAL Modulus.. :D
And we were right.. On the very next off road outing. It snaps..
So that is my little story and I am glad it amused you all :D
and just think if yah had a toyota there you could be imping it home also with a broken birfield
ha ha ha ha ha///\

Im4yotas 12-27-2001, 07:35 PM Sorry, coach. I ain't the Brandon you're thinkin of. I'm just some punk college kid that isn't into gymnastics and this "work" stuff!
CrazyCraig 12-27-2001, 07:50 PM Hey Belly,
It happens to all of us at one time or another, I broke three axle shafts at Big Dogs, within 100 yards of each other.(i did have tools but who wants to change three shafts in a row??) Damn those 30's, I also broke a lockrite (lockwrong) and spit the shims out of the 30 carrier. oh well when the 60 goes in I will find something else to break, beside my wallet. :D
later
Craig
Thanks for the encouraging words..
And Yes that axle was tortured at wellsville...
Hmmm, 3 stage in 3 wheel drive...
Upper twister in 3 wheel drive...
the entire creekbed in 3 wheel drive.
the powerline in 3 wheel drive.
Yep it was tortured... :D But it got me home.. :D (on the trailer)
